Sync TV and iPad (self.Blind)
submitted by Fine-Bet6402
Hello. I am newly impaired so I can only see phone or tablet close to my face. I would like to be able to watch shows with my family. I noticed if I mirror the iPad to the LG TV, that works great until I start watching a show. Then the show disappears on the iPad and only shows on the tv. (So I can’t see it)

For Netflix and Disney plus, they seems to behave similarly.

We try to sync manually by un-pausing at the right time, but that’s a bit hard. Thanks for any suggestions!

My husband and I do this. I use my iPad and he watches the tv (for streaming services). The easiest way for us to sync manually is if he plays his show and I press fast forward to be ahead of him by a few seconds, then I quickly pause and unpause repeatedly until I get it just right. Sometimes it takes a few tries, but you’ll get pretty good at it if you practice. It’s way easier than trying to hit unpause at the same time. I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks! This is what I’m doing now. It works ok but gets tiring when we skip commercials and have to re sync haha. Plus we always seem to be a little bit off so lips and audio are a tad off.

Unfortunately, digital rights management, can really get in the way of very ordinary and convenient ways of doing things. I can't think of a legal way of going about bypassing that restriction.

That said, I can think of a very crappy way of going about this, but it's .. yuck.. the idea pains me to suggest but maybe just maybe it's passable for now....

Point the ipad at the tv using the camera app.. you could even go as far as buy a separate webcam that you can plugin which just sits in a dedicated spot in the living room pointed just perfectly.

Another thought I had is that if your content is streamed through a box of some kind that has hdmi out to the tv you could get a hdmi splitter. one side goes to tv, other goes to a second screen like one of those portable monitors for digital nomads that work at cafes with their laptops. It may be necessary to get a splitter that strips hdcp from the signal I don't really remember so a bit of trial and error or further research required for that.

Watching playoff hoops with my son now using the camera method! Great idea. You lose a bit of clarity but can zoom in good. I have a tablet holder thing that holds it in right spot so I don’t have to.

That camera idea is a good one I’ll need to try it! And I’ll google for more video splitter ideas. Thanks.

most people want the bigger screen and that's that.
Look for a watch party feature in your streaming apps.

Yes I saw something about group watch on Disney plus. Will see if we can figure that out. Thanks!

Try figuring out the group watch on Disney plus! We use it as well and we like it, especially for family movie night where only one of us needs the description.

Are you able to have two users watching on two different devices but using the same dis+ account? Thanks
TwoSunsRise 1 points 1y ago
Yep! People on different profiles can both join the group watch separately. So my husband and I have our own profiles but same account and will do group watch.
