I found an art form that I can still see to do! (self.Blind)

Photo description: A small, stained glass, abstract flower made of 6 glass pieces in two shades of green, cut into diamond shapes and soldered together. There's a red circle in the center of the flower, atop the green leaves. A thin gage silver wire is coming up from the middle of the flower, curving over it, with a yellow glass bead suspended on the end.

Some context:

I've been creating art for as long as I can remember. I studied art and design in university and started out my adult life as a graphic designer, before a career shift to software engineer. As my functional vision has gotten a bit worse over the years, I stopped doing a lot of drawing and painting.

Recently, though, I've discovered stained glass and, with good lighting in the work room, I can see to do it! This is only my third small project and I've only been at it for few days now in total, but I'm really enjoying it. I'm starting to get better at cutting the glass where I want to and my solder lines still aren't the cleanest, but they're getting better, too.

So now I guess I have a new expensive hobby.

Very nice!

I may be lucky because what I do isn’t very visual. Writing is what I have always done and what I will always love. I learned to type perfectly on keyboard and having it read. As long as I can do that I don’t care about anything else.

I love writing, but I can never seem to finish anything. I have a whole folder on my computer of half-written stories.

Ah, that's how it works in this hobby. Most of what I have done is also half-written lol.

Keep up the good work with the glass art!

That's pretty cool.

Music is my artistic vice but I've been thinking about picking up a more tactile art form. Do you have any experience with other tactile art forms?

I've done some pottery in the past. Throwing things on a pottery wheel is super fun/relaxing once you get the hang of it. I don't have a good place anymore where I could do that kind of thing though.

I've tried sculpting with clay, sculpy, etc. in the past and really, I'm just not good at it. It's not a vision thing, I'm just not skilled in that regard.

I went through a small wood carving phase a few years back - basically I just free-formed animals out of small blocks of wood. It wasn't anything super detailed, but it was fun. It had a nice tactile feel and the wood blocks were small enough and soft enough that it was easy to control the little knife.

That’s beautiful! It looks like a fantasy Christmas flower.

Had one of those one of those really expensive hobbies haha! Not art related for sure but lots of books and reading. And learning.
