Transferring saved passwords from one computer to another(self.Blind)
submitted by BlindManOnFire
Hey r/Blind,
My computer barely charges anymore. I've ordered a new one. The trouble is all my passwords are randomly generated and saved on this one, and I can't easily click SHOW PASSWORD and copy them down.
Is there a way to import all my saved passwords from my old laptop to my new?
Edit: I was able to sync my laptop to my gmail account. Hopefully I'll be able to sync my new laptop when I get it and get the passwords transferred over.

What tool did you use to save them? Is it Apple's iCloud Keychain?

It's Firefox's about:logins.

I haven’t used Firefox in a long time but I believe you have two options. One, turn on sync. This allows Firefox to share your passwords across multiple devices.
Two, you can export your passwords to an unsecured csv file. And then import them. Then delete or encrypt the file locally
Thank you! I won't get my new laptop for a few more days but I'll bookmark this as a reference.

Firefox syncs between devices as long as you are signed in, so if you install Firefox on a different computer as long as you are signed onto the browser it should transfer onto the new device

I know I am late to the party, but I'd recommend using a password manager like lastpass or bitwarden. These automatically sync between devices where the plugin or app is installed.

For now, use sync to transfer your passwords to the new computer. But for future reference, just storing them in your browser is both incredibly unsafe (they are hardly protected at all) and difficult to back up properly. Please, please try giving a password manager like KeePass (offline) or Bitwarden (cloud) a try. You can store passwords safely there, back them up (as a database file on your USB stick, for example), set up auto-typing to get all the convenience Firefox offered you, set reminders for changing them, and much more. Bot
KeePass and Bitwarden are both accessible and used by quite a few blind people already. There's other options out there as well, if neither appeals to you. Although given multiple problems with their security, I would personally advise against LastPass.

Do you use Google Chrome? If so, you can export all of your passwords into a file and then import them to your new laptop.

I'm a Firefox user. Could I do the same with Firefox?

Yes. You just have to be logged in to Firefox with password sync enabled.

I would suggest using Key Pass. It's a password manager that is extremely accessible and secure. Super easy to just have your passwords sync in Dropbox or something like that.
