Could a completely blind person still prefer to use an iPad or tablet over an iPhone, if so why would they?

Edit: I mean when it comes to using Braille.

For the most part I prefer iPhones, because I find the extra screen real estate of the iPad to be harder to navigate due to getting lost when the edges are not within my reach, master detail views such as that in Settings are harder to navigate with flick gestures or keyboards since moving back from the first element in the detail view will get you to the last element in the master view, and keyboards can also be paired with iPhones. The only thing iPads have going for them in my opinion are the ability to multi-task with two windows side by side or one window in the corner of the screen, and Safari pulling the desktop versions of websites by default.

That said I'm planning on getting an iPad for development at some point, because using the iPad simulators on MacOS blind is an annoyance and there is, to my knowledge, currently no way to test the multi-tasking functionality of iOS using the keyboard on MacOS, plus I'll be applying to jobs from October onwards and intend to use an iPad with Swift Playgrounds to impress potential employers in coding interviews. I do code in Xcode obviously, but I find the idea of quickly building app prototypes on an iPad quite appealing.

I don't use Braille, but still decided to reply because I think that the experience is probably the same for Braille users.

it depends, but ye. There’s more “real estate” available. So the user may find the ergonomics better for them as an individual.

Braille on an ipad and an iphone would be pretty similar. So in regard to that the experience would be the same. It would be for other stuff like the ipad is larger for more real estate and better speakers by a bit, and serving as a secondary device i guess you can buy an ipod but buying two phones would be meaningless and no one would do that. Sometimes an ipad mini would suffice. I bought the bigger one the ipad pro but still don’t know why? Is there a difference for me besides having more space then a mini, no but yeah, the speakers are indeed nicer. You could buy a keyboard case to go with it. But if you were to trade me an ipad mini or if I was to get a new one I don’t see why an ipad mini would not be good enough. That’s also why I got the 11 over 13 inch or the smaller pro.

The processor on it is pretty good though.

the other thing nobody's said yet is that an iPhone has an easily positionable camera and GPS.
As a blind adult using my tech day-to-day, I find these tools useful. I'd struggle to read print with an iPad in the same way.

Why iPhone in particular and not just phone?
Available-Fly7541 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
From what I’ve heard the Braille display support with android is not very good.
DHamlinMusic 3 points 1y ago
Ok but that's not anywhere in your question and as something like only 10 percent of blind people know braille that would not be of concern to most people.
Available-Fly7541 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
I see. I’m sorry. I’ll add that.

Thanks cause I was rather confused about the question with it missing that context. Yes for braille displays iPhone is probably better unless you have one of the few that brailleback supports which is limited and probably not worth the time/effort to deal with that anyway. Though I do not beleive that many people use braille displays with phones compared to computers and such. for braille typing with bsi the more recent Android phones are as good if not better than iPhone for that from what I have heard, though cannot say from experience on iPhone end of things as I use Android but this is all typed with braille using bsi.

Because iPad and iPhone run on the same OS (pretty much). Also, from my personal experience at least, Android lacks the fluidity and ease of comprehension that IOS offers.

Yeah if you'd read further you'd have seen this was before the OP cleared up that they were talking about braille display support.
