Adapting to gaining vision. Have y’all gained a tremendous amount of vision if so, how did that go? (self.Blind)
submitted by PromiscuousAlien
I’ve been completely blind in my right eye my whole life and my left eye has always been my ‘good eye’. Unfortunately growing up I was always given the wrong rx for glasses. I was always 20/80 or higher. Without glasses Im 20/200 and that has not changed. So i did not wear glasses much when I was younger into my young adulthood because they didn’t help much. I grew up and was treated as If I had 20/20 vision instead of having resources to help me do well in school. Also not one optometrist would tell me what my diagnoses was. Or ever referred me to see a specialist. Just said I could not see well.

So I have never had a license! Just in March I found a low vision specialist because my eye kept getting blurry and I was a little concerned. This specialist took his time, was very patient and explained what was wrong with my eyes and my diagnoses. So I went from 20/80 and higher to 20/40 and can now drive!!!!! (I passed the driving test)

So im asking if anyone has gained vision and how they adapted to ‘seeing’ the world! Im struggling with breaking out of old habits and struggling with actually ‘seeing’! My eye feels like a camera lens focusing in and out and struggling to know what to focus on. I still plan things as if I cant drive lol. Any tips or suggestions would help! Thanks.

Congrats. The world is set up for sighted people so I imagine you will adapt fairly easily. Good luck and enjoy.

Thank you! Just trying to break old habits that I learned and used all my life is kicking my butt.

Well very nice indeed. Congratulations. I suppose this is one of the reasons I don’t know if I want to see again. Seems like to much readjustment and energy and time, and learning it all over again.
