JAWS freezes completely when trying to go to the settings in Google Chrome (self.Blind)
submitted by grinchnight14
I just got Chrome today, and when I try to go to the settings, JAWS instantly stops talking, and I have to like alt tab or something to get it back to talking. Is there anyone else who knows about this or knows how to fix it? Thanks. It's really weird, I wanna look at the settings and stuff.

Yeah, have found Chrome to be iffy with screen readers even on Android sometimes, I use Edge which works wonderfully with them.

While Edge has gotten better over the years, there's still some flaws it has that make me not want to use it at all. Mainly it doesn't tell me what I'm backspacing. No thank you

Huh, doesn’t do that for me.

No idea why it does it, but it's super annoying. I kinda wish Internet Explorer wasn't being killed, it honestly was the best with JAWS cause it was made when Internet Explorer was like the only browser

I like IE myself. Yeah, I think jaws is getting outdated and stuff. And the modern updates, are……. Wel……. Kinda………. Updates but not also really updates?

I mean that more says things about Jaws’s age tbh, but Edge works fine with that from what I’ve found, though I mainly use Talkback, Narrator, and Nvda.

Last time I used Jaws and chrome it didn’t do that it just didn’t like to navigate the page the best. There was two sighted people with me both of them are computer people so am I but both of them got impatient and we decided one of them should help me get to the setting to expedite the process one of the guys didn’t have all day hahaha! So we did that.

Have you tried restarting the computer, jaws, or chrome?

Tried Chrome, not JAWS or the laptop yet though. I'll try that next, thanks for the help

Not a problem. Sometimes it needs a good hard kick and then it’ll work not literally but a restart.

If not try nvda with it or narrator. Sometimes it could be screen reader dependent. Last time I was at it jaws worked fine with it.

That didn't do much, and oh no, not Narrator lol.

Well sorry to hear that maybe try nvda maybe they’ve changed things since which is a shame.
