Nature related activities (self.Blind)
submitted by madisonmermaid
Hi there,

I work at a summer camp for the blind, but I am one of a few fully sighted people who attend/work at the camp. I am in charge of developing the activities for the nature area.

Last summer was great and we did lots of different things like, hiking, nature crafts, camping skills, etc.

I was wondering if there are any activities you have loved that involve spending time outside, learning about nature/ecology, or if there is anything you would like to learn/know about the outdoors or how to spend time outside?

Thanks for the tips!

I’m not blind, but I think birdsong recognition might be fun.

If you want anything astronomy related, look up the “Touch the…” book series by Noreen Grice. These are a series of books that have large print and Braille, and the images have raised line, bringing the pictures of astronomy to people without any vision.

I got a chance to go deep sea fishing, that was fun, or water skiiing that was also fun. And surfing was fun too.

One of the bird recognition apps that you sound to tell you what type of bird it is is pretty cool.
