O&M and Guide Dogs (self.Blind)

Can I still get a guide dog if I haven’t had formal O&M training for about three years?

It depends on the organization you choose to go with I’m pretty sure. At least in my experience they don’t really have a formal requirement, they just wanna see that you have the skills. Actually now that I think about it, they did want a letter from my instructor saying that I had a certain amount of hours of O&M training. But as long as you can get that I think it be fine
EDIT: Ignore what I said, another commenter mentioned something and I do believe a letter form your instructor is generally required.

Almost all guide dog school applications will have a section for the client's O&M instructor to fill in regarding the client's skills. However, in a case where that isn't possible (instructor has retired, passed away, moved, etc), the schools may ask a local O&M instructor to do an assessment, or they may send their own instructor to do an assessment.

You're more correct than I was. It was about 6 years ago (wow time flies) since I applied to my school and was paired with my guide. I didn't remember the exact requirements, but I believe I updated my comment sufficiently. I should think before commenting less than accurate information lol

Hi there!
I applied to about 8 Guide dog schools last fall. I would say as long as you still have contact with your O&M instructor and still feel confident in your skills, you should be alright. As far as I know, schools do not care how long ago your trainning was. They just want to know that you have good O&M skills.
