Guide Dog Training (self.Blind)
submitted by Snookerdee3
For those of you who are employed how did you get time off to go train at a guide dog school. I am currently pursuing the path of employment because I want to get a guide dog and thought having a job would be beneficial as far as providing me extra income to support me and the dog but stressing how I would even get time off to go train for a few weeks at a guide dog school.

I wasn't employed during my training but I had a young child for whom I was jointly responsible.
I just refused to go anywhere. I had a home and a life and was already independent. If there wasn't enough variety in my local area for the dog to learn what was needful, there'd be no point me having a dog. They adapted and trained me in my local city.

UK. trained about a decade ago.

In the US it would be considered a reasonable accommodation. Every job is going to handle it differently. My organization had me take a leave of absence, and I used vacation time until it ran out. But I was able to come back. It just sucked because i didn’t have any vacation for the rest of the fiscal year. I had a friend whose job just... let them leave. They got paid the whole time. So it just depends.
