Partially sighted and car rides (self.Blind)
submitted by blazblu82
Does Dramamine work? I've been avoiding car rides lately because I get car sick after 30 minutes or so. Stomach does loopty-loo's and I get a headache that persists for a while. Got a family trip coming up in June and I want to go, but never taken anything for car sickness. I'm simply curious if others have used it with any success, TIA!

Yes! Try Dramamine or Bonine (which won't make you drowsy), candied ginger (must be real ginger), Sea Band wrist band that does acupressure. I use all these in combination. Also, take sinus medicine if you are prone to sinus pressure. That can make motion sickness much worse. Hope this helps!

I take ginger pills! Other things with real ginger in the ingredients works too. In many tests, ginger is just as effective as Dramamine but without side effects

In Germany pharmacies sell a wide range of ginger products ie drops, gummies, candies, pills, pastilles etc. And there are lots of different types of 'ginger shots' in the grocery stores (I prefer Rewe brand which comes in a larger bottle) These tend to be far cheaper than I've seen them in other countries.

I also use dried/candied ginger, preferably not sugared. In the US I believe that Trader Joe's (German company!) sells sugared and non-sugared, and there is an Australian company (Buderims?) which makes a wide range.

For candies, I prefer Chimes brand, and preferably the cayenne lemon ones. (This brand is available in lots of places globally, and I prefer over Ginger People)

Whatever you choose, check ingredients as other 'stuff' can make you feel more ill, especially if you have a few candies etc in a short period.

I live near the Buderim factory and have a few of their ginger snacks at all times!

Yes it works, but will make you drowsy.

Good to know, thanks!

You could try an earplug, just one. It’s supposed to trick your brain. It doesn’t work for me but it’s safe and cheap

But Dramamine works. Try it before your trip because it make some people too sleepy. So it’s best to try when you’re not doing anything important. Also take it before you go (usually one hour) and take repeat doses as instructed. It doesn’t work as well if you’re already sick.

Just got back from a trip that was a 7 hour drive each way, found my darkest shades worked wonders with this.

My shades let 24% light thru and I still get car sick. I don't have anything darker.

Ah sorry about that, mine aren’t even that dark, think are 21's
