What brand or type of sunglasses do you guys wear when it is very bright outside?(self.Blind)
submitted by ShadowRegalia
With the summer, comes a lot of light. And it is crazy how bright things are, not just with the sun itself, but the light reflecting off windows and everything else. What kind of sunglasses do you guys wear to cut down on the glare?

The obnoxious blind people glasses that were given to me after surgery. I much rather have people understand that I’m blind more quickly than happy people not get it because I’m wearing a cool pair of glasses just in case my cane doesn’t identify me quickly enough.

Not sure if I should moderate this post - sunglasses are a very *polarizing* subject =)
Why yes, I am a father! How could you tell?
I have a pair of prescription sunglasses. They're pretty good. I still get photophobia but not as bad as it would be if I wasn't wearing them.
Can't remember the name of the company I got them through. I just Googled "cheap prescription sunglasses" and found a source online. You enter your own prescription numbers on their website. With shipping and options I think they cost around $45.
I believe a glare reducing finish was an option on their ordering screen.
If you want more details let me know and I'll see if I can find the company name in an old credit card statement, but I remember there were a few online options to choose from.

I bought a pair of Noir 21% sunglasses earlier this year to go over my glasses. Does a decent job cutting down light, but I find myself wearing a hat to block light from entering between forehead and top of sunglasses most of the time.
I have a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses that I've had for the last decade but have no idea what model. They've worked quite well for me. Not cheap though.

I have a pair from them too and they are my absolute favorite because they fit like they were made for my face. I do wish the lenses were darker though. My prescription glasses are from BCBG and darker but don’t block the light from above so I have to pair them with a hat.

I have a pair of wrap around sunglasses, don’t remember the brand, that I got custom tinted to be extra dark.
I’m glad the optician happened to be my friend because I had to send them back to be tinted twice (they came back too light the first time). She was perfectly happy to send them back, and explain to the lab doing the tinting to yes, make them that dark because no, the customer will never be wearing them while driving.
Every off-the-shelf pair of sunglasses I’ve tried hasn’t been dark enough. Apparently there are regulations about the range of tint sunglasses can have so that someone wearing them can still see while driving.

I’m still searching for the perfect pair of sunglasses. None of them have ever been dark enough for the photophobia. I currently always wear a hat and have some half decent polarized sunnies.

I use the Bausch and Lomb Driveware glasses. They aren't the darkest but it does a good job of reducing the light and taking the glare out. They are polarized and get lighter and darker with the sun but they never go to clear. They were designed for truckers but luckily they work for me. I also always wear a hat, both to block direct sunlight and as an early warning system before I hit something with my head or face. Best of luck finding your magic pair!

I’ve got RP and got a pair of the copper tint (polarized) from these guys. https://cocoonseyewear.com/lenses/. (Scroll about halfway down to where the sections that describe each lens type and its specifications begins.) Their return policy was great. I bought three identical frames, each with different types of lens, and tried them out and settled on this one, and just sent the other two back for full refunds. Also, FWIW, I spent a significant amount of time on the phone with their customer service folks trying to figure out the right lens and they were very helpful Not cheap, though.

My sunglasses are designed by a company that's specialised in making optical devices for the visually inpaired. I don't have a high prescription but my sunglasses have a couple of adjustments that can't be made by a regular optician. My glasses blocks 90% of the light and has a filter that enhance contrast. I wear them all the time outside even when it is cloudy because of photophobia.
