Blindisms that you are proud of and do you have any in general? (self.Blind)
submitted by TechnicalPragmatist
Does anyone do any blindisms here and what are they. And are you proud of them or at least don’t take shame in it.

Probably more applicable to people who grew up totally blind or nearly that. Just wondering.

I do like at least in my own home spinning around in a chair over and over again. Occasionally out in public I will or when waiting and bored I’ll anchor my cane on the ground and spin around it.

I like to touch, play and rip up paper and things at home, sort of tactilly.

I like to take a piece of paper sometime like at church like a notes page and keep halving it for instance and it ends up with a piece of paper with many folds.

Sure, I have them. I used to spin about in my office chair so often that I broke it (made it lower and unable to raise up) ... twice. I sometimes rock in my chair when alone. I've mostly unlearned pushing my eyes in, but there are rare occassions when it still pops up.

But any that I'm proud of? Hmm, not really. My solution to the spinning was to get myself a normal chair. I would never rock in public. And eye-pushing is just all around unhealthy.

I suppose the only one I don't feel the need to pay attention to -- except when I am actively in a conversation with someone, of course -- is that I compensate for my lack of visual imput by needing to keep my fingers busy. Wrapping the headphone cable around them, playing with a necklace, discovering all the little bumps and grooves on a seemingly flat table surface, that kind of thing. As long as it's quiet and it doesn't make someone feel I'm not paying attention to them, that's alright.

Now that I think about it, does messing with my cane count? Sometimes when waiting, I will move it about between my hands, make gentle circles with the tip, stretch away the top part from the second, etc. Hmm, I guess that might look odd to people. Whoops.

I never realised that playing around with headphones or necklaces stems from this. I do it a lot.
I also play around with my cane. It has a spinning tip, so I will move it sideways fastly to make the tip spin fast (it makes that spinning noise, so that‘s a good enough pastime when waiting for the tram).

Yes that counts hahaha! And interesting I can relate to the stuff about playing with things or rubbing your fingers on the tables.

Whoa! Spinning is a blindism? I never knew!

I always like dancing little jigs in the aisle of the grocery store while waiting for whoever I'm with to grab whatever they're getting.

It's quite liberating because you know full well you're making a fool out of yourself, but at the same time you just don't give a shit because you can't see anyone looking funny at you anyway. :)

Haha! Nice and interesting.

I constantly have a piece of paper in my mouth. I don’t swallow it, but I just threw on it and then spit it out later. Gives me something to do.

Interesting. For sure. Is it tasty hahahahahahahahaha! I find it amusing but interesting. Hahaha!

Actually, all different paper have different flavors. Like, I could have a piece of print paper from my school and it tastes salty and sweet. But I could have a printer paper from somewhere else and it taste somewhat better. Card stock taste pretty good.

Hmm. Really interesting that’s actually kinda cool. Never thought of paper tasting before.
