Is there a program for Windows similar to Seeing AI, but for your screen? (self.Blind)

For example, if I'm playing a video game, and the game does not support screen readers, do you guys happen to know of a program that would be able to extract text from a screen and read it aloud?

Using NVDA's Optical Character Recognition (OCR) functionality, you should be able to achieve this with varying results. Press NVDA+R and you should hear "recognising, result document". Once you hear that second part, you should be able to move around in any text that's been extrapolated from the image.

That aside, yeah OCR is super powerful, I figured i t out a little earlier, and suddenly I w as able to read quest information and everything, which was awesome! Do you happen to know if there is a way to have this work in realtime? for example, if I am in an inventory of a game, and I hit OCR, and pan a round the inventory, have it detect a new tooltip is opened, and read that particular text?

I am, as you say "The Sea Of Thieves Guy" but there are others out there. :)
As for your other question, there was an addon for NVDA called LION, but I'm not sure if it's been updated to keep it compatible with newer version of NVDA.

You certainly have some blind fellows out there on the seas! I am actually one of them, and I found it hilarious when I was reading the article about you because a lot of the tactics you came up with I also sort of came up with as well it’s funny how as we adapt we will come up with very similar solutions like I do have my friends play their musical instruments to follow them around by sound as well but I wasn’t aware of the Compass track the article mentioned I still haven’t given that a shot yet, ha ha I don’t tend to steer the ship though, I tend to be the fishing person in the group oddly enough but I’ll have to look into that I Dona mansion

Would highly recommend steering the ship and also giving cannons a shot, pun intended. :) Glad to know you're enjoying the game and if you have any questions about my methods etc, let me know. I also regularly stream the game on my Xbox Ambassadors streams, so you could come along and ask first-hand as well.

If you use NVDA, on Windows 10 and possibly later, you can press NVDA+R to make it use the optical character recognizer built into Windows. In games you might need to use Object Navigation to position the NVDA cursor on the game content since they are unlikely to have accessible controls.

Oh wow this is super interesting I do have a very small amount of vision left that I can possibly use to guide a mouse cursor over the text I presume that is what you meant by optic navigation? This would be a super useful feature though

No, I really do mean $1, which is used to navigate controls that aren't reachable using keyboard focus, such as the windows where most games display their graphics.

How exactly would I use object navigation? I thought I heard a link somewhere in here that you sent me to some documentation, but i can't seem to find that now

It works for me on Windows 11 so yes. It's not exclusive to Windows 10.
