can blind people understand braille if it's written with a gel pen?(self.Blind)
submitted by elatedcorpse66
This might be a stupid question but my friend is claiming that gel pen ink will slightly stick out from the flat piece of paper and if you write in braille a blind person could perhaps feel it and understand it,I think it's impossible. Can anyone help me out here?

No. We can’t read braille with a gel pen.

OK thank you. Like I said, stupid question.

I am glad you understand. I am not blind, but I was going to try to describe a speedbump drawn on the road with chalk. Braille can be done several ways, but usually with a braille embosser.

Yeah no way the ink stands up enough to be tactile enough to read, also ink would still spread out. Now try with acrylic paint and you might have a chance.

If you are blind and your superhero name is DareDevil, then yes. Otherwise, no - even a gel pen is not tactile enough. Try it yourself, eyes closed.
You can make usable braille with puff paint, but even that is hard to do. Braille has very specific rules and spacing and it is hard to do freehand. It can be 3-D printed, but it’s normally embossed with a braille printer, a braille typewriter, or a braille slate and stylus.

My fingertip sensitivity is decent, but no way in hell could I decipher gel pen on paper at this point.

Yup, just no.
They might feel few bumps or something, probably where the pen was pressed harder in the paper, but, you ain't reading a book written with this pen in braille.

Maybe puffy paint?
TechnicalPragmatist1 points1y ago
No maybe some punches in the paper, or puff paint or something.
But you can do this more artistically or occasionally but you really don’t want to do this long term. Most braille is actually embossed by a perkins brailler or through more electronic means.
But if it’s on a letter or something maybe.
Why do you ask? What is this for?

Like I said in my post my idiot friend was convinced that it was possible so I had to come here to prove him wrong lmao thank you

Haha! I see. Yeah, people say all sorts of things I wouldn’t worry to much. I am totally blind and read and write braille on a regular basis.
