Need recommendations!for blu-ray/media player(self.Blind)
submitted by outlawkyboe
My grandpa is totally blind, and loves older movies. I've helped him navigate the Alexa menu to be able to stream movies but it doesn't have the ones he wants without paying extra. Normally I'd just get them online for free and play the MP4 file but he can't navigate the menu unless it's talks to him. So basically I need a media player/blu-ray player that the menu is audio descriptive and will real the files I put. Thanks!!

A fire TV stick or Cube has a nice tactile remote. The VLC for Fire app will stream nicely, and you can organise a folder structure for him on a NAS, local USB, Vpn etc.

We have the cube! That's what he uses to stream stuff. I didn't notice a USB slot on it for me to put movie files on though. Maybe I overlooked it.

my stick has a Micro-B port - I needed an adapter.

Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate it! I never thought about an adapter

The BBC in the UK host some movies with audio-description too. The get-ippayer tool and a decent VPN will net you a regular stream of new content. Check every month or so and you'll almost certainly find something worth his time.

Sorry if it's confusing. He needs a easy to navigate menu that talks back to you and will play common movie files. MP4 etc. Want to help him watch his old movies without having to rent it.

Not exactly what you’re looking for but check out https://audiovault.net/ it’s audio tracks from movies and tv with audio description. You could see if the fire cube plays mp3s.
