NVDA no longer s tarts with the CTRL + Alt + N hotkey, did I mess something up? (self.Blind)
submitted by ChipsAhoiMcCoy
Hey guys, I noticed NVDA had a shortcut on my desktop, but I didn't plan on ever using that, so I deleted the shortcut. For some reason, however, this seems to have messed with the hotkey to open up NVDA? I tried peering through the settings to see if there was some way that I could set it back to how it was, but I can't seem to find that setting in the options menu. Any idea where I can find this? THanks!

yes, the hotkey is tied to the shortcut. It's a Windows thing, not an NVDA thing.

If you don't want the shortcut but do want it to start with the hotkey, run shell:common programs\nvda\, find the NVDA shortcut, go to properties (alt+enter) and put the ctrl+alt+n in there.

That is super weird, is there anyway to reverse this? Would going into my recycle bend and just simply restoring the shortcut do the trick? I’ve never heard of that being in case, that is super odd I think Windows narrator is able to open itself with a hockey without the necessity of a desktop shortcut

Restoring the shortcut from the recycle bin may work. You may need to restart your computer after restoring it for the keyboard shortcut to register.

Whoops, just realized the entire post is in caps, that's awkward, haha. Thanks! i went ahead and just used the installer to make the hotkey available again. This time I won't delete the shortcut it made on the desktop.

Narrator is part of Windows already and Microsoft wanted it accessible to us out-of-the-box. Installed applications can only be run through hotkeys tied to shortcuts because, well, until they're running, they're not able to pick up the shortcut.
yes, restoring the icon from recycle bin would work, but so would adding the hotkey back in to any other copy of the shortcut you have, such as that in your program files as I mentioned earlier.

Because it has been programed. Can you recreate the short cut?
