Any Late Night Food Suggestions? (self.Blind)
submitted by bulagbandit
Hi all,

I work late a lot since my job is something I have to do at night since it's quiet then. That also means I get very hungry and can't necessarily cook without waking my housemate or the neighbors. I try to order food at night, but there are few drivers for uber or doordash in my rural area. Are there any suggestions anyone can give? I know you can't walk up to drive thrus, but if there's a workaround people know please let me know.

Some grocery stores are open late and some have prepared foods. Liquor stores are almost always open late and usually have munchies that will do if you're really desperate.

Best route is to plan ahead and buy accordingly.

Trail mix (nuts, dried fruit, M&Ms, or similar) work pretty well for me if I'm just buying time between real meals. Fresh fruit (apples, bananas, oranges, peaches, or whatever else you like) can work well as a nice change when you need one. Chips and salsa can be good too. Crackers, cheese, and smoked sausages, can be a good, quick, quiet prep, or even a salad, or cold sandwich.

If you need real food you can pack yourself cold a lunch ahead of time. In a pinch you can even drain a can of tuna and eat it straight out of the can...potato or tortilla chips can go well with that. If nothing else there's always breakfast cereal.

Might be worth talking to your housemate about your challenge. Worst case you keep doing what you are doing but you could find they are open to better alternatives. My new mantra is \***Ask. Do not assume.**

Good luck and have fun!

Would a microwave be too loud? Oats are very easy, especially if you use an oversized bowl so you do not have to worry about them running over. My grandmother taught me to poach eggs in the microwave also; you fill a small bowl with water, splash vinegar into the water, then crack an egg into the bowl, then put in the microwave for 30-60 seconds. When the egg is a consistency you like, scoop it out with a spoon.

It is also a bit loud, but you can use an electric kettle to make cup noodles, soup, packaged rice, more oats.

I am very lazy though, so a lot of the time I just eat protein bars. If you want a nicer meal, you could also cook/order doordash earlier in the day, and put away to eat at night.

I never cook at lunch because I just don't have time. Sometimes I'll warm up leftovers in the microwave, depending on what it is.

Usually my lunch is things like yogurt, mixed nuts, meats, cheeses, fruits, sandwiches, chips, veggies, cereal, protein bars, etc.

Crackers chips that’s what I use to do a lot of sweets. Now a days beef sticks is nice, cheeses is fun. I have a cheese stick that’s rapped in meat kind of string cheese type I think it’s prosciutto.

Dried crispy veggies, nuts, dried fruit, cereals, cup of noodles, oriols or wafers, cellery sticks with hummus, bruschetta, fruit, maybe a ceviche, fruit flavored bred, what about bread with cookie butter or nutella or avocados or cream cheese, or peanutbutter, apple with peanutbutter, fruit with lemon and salkt I think it was, stuff like that
