"Outside" short-film with audio description (self.Blind)
submitted by regicide85
Hey folks! I'm Blind/Low-vision with fairly advanced RP. I opted to make a short film during my final year of graduate school, which was also during the height of the pandemic.

There was a story on the NoSleep podcast at the end of season 2 that I really liked until the end, in which the main character gouges their eyes out, which somehow magically made them unable to do something as simple as write their own name. I liked the themes in the story, and felt it could be made better if emphasis was placed on the reliance on accessible technology the b/Blind community lives with.

This version includes audio description and, given my interest for sound design, is a highly sonic short. Feel free to share and enjoy!

Haha! Interesting but super weird. I was going to point out the body language stuff till I realized the guy had some vision left. Or had some vision. At one point good enough to learn normal body language.

Yeah, I basically self-inserted as the main character. It was a challenge to try to figure out how to explain the concept of low-vision in a short film where the disability was relevant but not the point. I was hopeful that the use of the screen reader in mouse mode at the beginning would be a tip-off, but I hope it wasn't too confusing. Thanks for watching!

I wasn’t sure if the character was a partial or total.

Thanks! I'm glad it was enjoyable! Yeah, it was based on a short horror story, it certainly gets weird. I've been working on it so long I kind of forgot and it's oddly nice to hear. Thanks!
