$100 compensation for an hour long survey (self.Blind)
submitted by OldManOnFire
Edit: The link to the survey is $1 Once you've filled it out r/e2eRedditor will get ahold of you to schedule the hour long interview. Please stop DMing me to sign up, I ain't the one doing it =)

*Hey guys,*

*I'm going to break the rules and post this in* r/Blind *instead of in the survey thread. The OP put it in the survey thread three days ago but only a handful of people ever go there.*

*OP is offering $100 compensation for a single hour of your time. Ignore it if you want, accept it if you want, it's up to you, but I think each of us deserves to know about this opportunity.*

*OP is* u/e2eRedditor. DM him or her for details on how to participate.

*That's it from me, the rest of this post is copy/paste from OP's message to the mod team.*

Good afternoon,

I am an employee of End to End User Research. Thank you for taking the time to read the following information about an ongoing accessibility research study we are conducting.

At End to End user Research, we conduct usability research studies for websites. In our studies, participants find issues with websites and suggest improvements to make them easier for people to navigate. We value honest, unbiased user feedback for our studies. You can learn more about End to End by visiting our company website: $1.

Currently, we are in the process of making our website accessible for people with varying abilities. We are conducting tests with visually impaired individuals who use screen readers on laptops/desktop computers to improve the accessibility of our company website.

This study requires that participants use a screen reader on a desktop or laptop computer to navigate websites. The study is a 1-hour remote Zoom call. During the research study session, individuals will use their desktop or laptop computer with their screen reader installed to review the accessibility of End to End's company website. All participants who complete the study will be compensated $100 for their time and feedback.

If you know anyone who may be interested in participating or can refer additional resources in locating these individuals, I would greatly appreciate hearing back from your team.

Thank you

can we get rid of the survey thread now and just let people post surveys again?
Given the quantity of videos I already have to ignore and the number of posts that are too sighted to be relevant due to "legally blind", I'd welcome surveys I can actually get something from.

Obviously with an appropriate flair and country restrictions mentioned early on.

Yeah I was thinking about this too... I added a flair for surveys

That's up to u/Rumster, not me. And he's slammed at work and not in the best of health this week so I don't think it's the right time to ask him, but we can talk it over and steer him to this thread when he's feeling better.

The survey thread sort of created a new problem while solving an old one. There were so many surveys and questions on r/Blind it made content by blind people hard to find. People asked us insensitive questions with zero regard for the emotional trauma our blindness caused. Many of us were uncomfortable - our safe space had been taken over by surveys and questions from people who assumed we were the blind version of r/AskReddit.

But the solution hasn't worked as well as I had hoped, either. Some great opportunities to earn money by helping make the world more inclusive for us have gone unnoticed in a mostly dead thread. Others have been posted just hours before the thread's scheduled deletion and replacement with a clean thread and dropped off before anyone could reply.

And we have no idea if the rules for posting surveys have intimidated some well paying organization right out of r/blind, leaving us for some other subreddit or another platform.

I love the idea of giving voice to the blind community. I love the idea of compensating blind people in exchange for their points of view, especially considering our incomes tend to be lower than average. I love that we're helping make the world a more inclusive, blind-friendly place every time we share our stories with the people who want to interview us. It's an all around win.

I just don't know the best way to make it happen.

The survey thread was mostly my idea, not Rumster's. If it's not a good idea I'm the one responsible. And I'm absolutely open for suggestions to improve it or replace it. I know Rumster is, too. If he hadn't been he wouldn't have implemented the survey thread in the first place.

If you or anyone else reading this had an idea to connect the surveyors with the people who want to participate, yet keep the main page of r/Blind free from unwelcome and intrusive questions, please post it here. We all want to make this subreddit the best it can be.

I think we need to drop the survey after this week for a little bit and see where it goes.
impablomations 2 points 1y ago
For the record , I'm 100% against dropping the survey thread. Surveys will end up crowding out posts by actual /r/blind member again.
retrolental_morose 2 points 1y ago
Don't yu feel that the number of video posts and discussions of visual impairment do that anyway?
rumster 1 points 1y ago
keeping surveys in place and having questions outside of it?
TechnicalPragmatist 2 points 1y ago
I replied to her and even filled out the survey radio silence.

Just got a reply from her doing a profound interview at 11 EST just got a message from her this morning doing a phone interview at 11 PM don’t know when doing the actual zoom web testing
TechnicalPragmatist 1 points 1y ago
As far as I know no reply for her, from others yes.

I think this person isn’t real has anyone reached them and nothing. I dmed them and they sent me the same 6 questions. I answered in a thorough fashion and ooop! Nothing. No reply I answered his 6 question 3 times, in his survey in a chat message and in a reply. Nothing. Don’t even bother or have the decency to get bak to me.

I’ve been doing most of the other ones. I am doing a interview with a german guy tomorrow night.

Happy to even do it for free really trying to get him some help and I know a lot about this stuff and can provide what I think and most others have said very insightful stuff. According to his question I should more than qualify. Probably too overly so. Sort of a assistive technologist myself more on the front end and did teach at so yeah.
