NVDA screen reader disabling vocalizer add-ons after updating. (self.Blind)
submitted by Mister-c2020
Hello all, I’m using windows 10 with the NVDA Screen Reader with The Code-Factory eloquence and vocalizer add-ons enabled. When starting up my laptop today, I was informed that there is an update for the Screen Reader. When proceeding through the prompts, I was informed through the screen reader that my add-ons are incompatible with the latest version of NVDA. From what I could tell there’s not really an easy way to fix this because the add-on does not have an update. Has anyone experienced this, how did you fix it? Thank you in advance!

Best bet is to wait for the addons to update. Use the addon updator addon, or check the addon website.

There's slightly DIY way of changing the manifest file of the NVDA addon to make it work with new version, but, that is a hit or miss situation. And since this is about TTS, I bet the addon needs updating to the latest coding standards, so that method will probably not work.

So, the vocalizer company or the maintainer of the said addon needs to update the addon code to make it compatible with NVDA 2022. Seeing it's a paid thing, think this will be updated soon. Wait for a month at least before updating. Or, you can just stick to NVDA 2021.3 or whatever.

Yup, updating to latest would likely nix some of your addons at this point. Addon authors should be ready with updates when releases happen, but often times they aren't, which is when ...well ...this happens.

Sorry that sounds annoying.

Understood, I’ll wait a month before updating. It’s just going to get annoying because each time I start up my computer I may or may not get the pop up asking me to update. Thank you for the help and I’ll leave this up just in case anyone else experiences any issues like it in the future.
