I’m looking to purchase a TV and I’ve heard Samsung has good accessibility support. Is it worth it to pay the higher price though? (self.Blind)

There are other brands like the TCL 6-series that are comparable in quality but I don’t know about their accessibility features.

Would I really need them though since I’m partially sighted and can probably see enough to set things up? I currently have an Apple TV that I’d use a lot and it has voiceover.

I have two Samsung series 7 televisions in my home. I purchased them based on a review I found on YouTube from the blind life. The TVs have excellent accessibility! The screen reader does very well on its own! The smart TV apps are able to be used with the screen reader! I can access all the functionality of my television including updates settings, and picture quality control. These TVs are very accessible and I would highly recommend them to someone with blindness or low vision. By the way I am totally blind. I hope this helps

Perfect that’s exactly the stuff I’d like to see!

I own a really nice 43” LG monitor but it doesn’t have any voice support or much else for that matter. I’m going to make a more informed purchase with my TV!

ADP (audio description project) has a whole guide on which TVs to choose and which cable is the best!

I e tried looking on the site and I’ve tried different google searches. Do you happen to have a link? If not, I’ll reach out to the website.

All the cable shows with AD so you know which plan to pick!

Ah I thought you were talking about reviews of actual TVs like Samsung, Sony, etc. These are TV networks and shows, right?
thatawkwardcosplayer 1 points 1y ago
Yup! I think they did have a list of which TVs provide AD in settings? But I’m not sure where it is on the site. It’ll at least help with figuring out what cable plan to pick out

I own a Roku stick and the screen reader works but sounds clunky. Old school voices.

I have a Sony that's rather good, uses Android TV but has chromecast and airplay built in so should be pretty compatible with iOS devices for things, I went with Sony cause several apps I wanted were not available on other brands.
kelpangler [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Do you mean you can install Sony-specific apps or from other services like Netflix, Vudu, etc?
DHamlinMusic 2 points 1y ago
The various Android TV brands do not all use the same store, like how android phones work, some apps are not available on all of them, in my case I have Funimation and HiDive that are not on Samsung last I knew.
