Help finding a simple audio book/mp3 player(self.Blind)
submitted by Numinak
My mother has been losing her sight over the last few years, and one of the things she really misses is reading. I've picked up some audio books for her, but have yet to find a easy or reasonably priced one that will do the simple task of playing without worrying about menus and such. I've been trying to find something that has that old 'CD player' basic setup. Play, next/back and stop but everything out there seems far more complicated than that for someone that can't see a screen to choose stuff.
Any suggestions would be helpful, as I really would like her to be able to enjoy her books again.
Thank you.

The National Library Service for the blind can provide a book reader. It's quite awesome! Checkou the Victor Reader too. I use both and I love them.

As someone else suggested, nls talking book division has free players and lots of books.

I love the old apple MP3 players. They’re around $50-$70 rn and mines lasted from 6th grade (I’m in my early 20’s now). That includes several accident washings.
I also used a old Walkman for years when I lived in the country. Had it until my brother accidentally broke it lol. They’re on eBay for pretty cheap.

I had considered this, but she didn't like the players when I tried one with her.
I bought this one for my wife after she went through a couple of expensive daisy players. It's very basic and well built. It only has a SD card slot, no memory, But does resume play where she stopped so she doesn't have to find her place when she starts again. The company ships overseas, I'm in Canada and I think the total was about $120 Canadian.

Why not try a victor reader?
Also the library of congress NLS has a player and their own readers and a lot of books to select from on bard. Also they can send you cartridges that you can put in there. I don’t know if they will take other formats. Victor readers can download from bard and bookshare. It can’t do cds but you can rip them and put it on the player.
