No, not really. I use Braille Screen input on my phone, which also works on a tablet but the tablet is bigger, which is just more screen real estate I don't need. If I were using a hardware keyboard, the same issue would arise.
I am totally blind, though. For those with partial vision a larger screen is almost certainly of benefit.

I'd like to have an Ipad for the same reasons you don't. I want a bigger screen, with the benefits it has such as being able to use two apps at once and etc.

fair enough. For anything requiring multiple apps I use a computer. :)

I used to do that, then my laptop went all crashes and frozen screens.

Yeah, I just got a new phone and the screen is quite a bit bigger than my last one, but that was the intention as it's just enough that I have an easier time getting all my fingers on it for BSI use, but otherwise do not see a need for a tablet, I use a kindle but went with the one that's just an ereader and nothing else.

I’m totally blind and I own an iPad. I use it for reading books and things. I typically use it to avoid running down my iPhone’s battery.

some apps have features designed for Ipads, like Scrivener, where you can place your research and working tab on the same screen.
BenandGracie1 points1y ago
Yep. I actually like that. I find it faster to flip through email on an iPad then a phone.
ukifrit1 points1y ago
Yeah. The larger battery seems pretty good too. Maybe one day I'll be able to buy me a Mini or Air.

Yes, I prefer my tablet. It can be more annoying at times, but my phone is tiny and I have usable vision when my eyes aren’t too tired, so I like being able to make things bigger when I do turn the screen on. I also find it more comfortable to hold in my lap when I’m just chilling on the couch. A lot of this is also probably what I’m used to. I didn’t have difficulty with my sight until more recently.

Apart from massive size which can be inconveniant to hold in hands sometimes, I have no objections to use tablets.
Also, just remembered, making a phone call on tablet would be awkward, don't want a massive peace of glass or plastic or metal plasted to my side of face.
I do have a bit of working sight, so, think tablets can be useful sometimes.

I'm blind and can't see myself ever using a tablet.

I've thought about getting one but I'm not sure if it would really be worth it. I have issues reading at this point, it really strains my eyes, I have to take it in spells. I'm looking into audiobooks though, because I used to heavily enjoy reading. But I've heard really good things about them from other VI folks, apple has really good accessibility options.
Laser_Lens_41 points1y ago
No. I would like to, but every time I look into it, I just can’t find an excuse to buy one. I guess it would make more sense if I had a vision to enjoy the bigger screen

I have a small iPhone so I also purchased an iPad mini for reading because when I use giant font for reading, I have to scroll too often. It’s also better for viewing pictures sent to me. For some reason people who know I’m VI still love to send me memes and pics. It’s also nice to have a separate device that turns on do not disturb so I can read braille in peace but still get my texts on my phone. I’m not fast enough to read my notifications when they pop up anyway and then sometimes the kindle app losses my place when that happens so I’m scrolling through trying to find where I was before the notification.

Do I prefer it no. Am I against it no.
Can I use a tablet, yes. I own an ipad that doesn’t possess the phone type features to get a less distracting work or reading experience. I own an ipad and now a surface pro
Would I strongly agree that I prefer it no but I wouldn’t say no ipad for me either, I use it, I can use the phone just as well, I use an ipad mostly to get away from the phone. Sure I can use an ipod but the processor is stronger on an ipad, it has pretty nice hardware and speakers I won’t lie. You can plug a hard drive right in to it why not?
A lot of blind people own ipads who are totally blind some own the bigger versions too. I own a smaller pro and like it fine. But screen size doesn’t matter as much.
