Is it possible to basically Ctrl+F your entire screen with NVDA? (self.Blind)
submitted by ChipsAhoiMcCoy
I know you can do this on browsers to get places quickly and navigate well on them, but is this psosible for your entire screen if using NVDA? Perhaps even using OCR then Ctrl+F'ing the OCR result? THis would be incredibly useful for programs that don't necessarily have good screen reader support so i would be relaly interested in something like this thanks!

OP, this is reminiscent of Mac VoiceOver's quickSearch facility where you can hold down a key and then the first letter of the item you're looking for and it takes you straight there. No, NVDA doesn't really do this, but there's a somewhat lesser known tool called FluentSearch that sorta kinda does, if you set it up to have access to stuff like that. Give that a look? :)

Oh wow, that sounds real nice. Someone more technologically gifted than me should try to create an addon for NVDA, this would be huge!

it really wouldn't I'm afraid. You can already do it in the apps that have a web-style interface (so that's the whole web, PDF's, emails etc). You can already do it in word processors, ebooks and so on. And the benefits of doing it on other screens limit you because there's only so much data on the screen in the first place. Screen OCR captures what can be captured and it rarely takes long to flick through that.

You can use OCR and then the NBA click commands to click on the certain parts of the OCRED screen.

Yeah, i have been using OCR and the hotkeys NVDA + Shift + M to move my cursor there, but what I was wondering if there was perhaps a way to Ctrl+F the found elements to quickly get to them? FOr example, if the word Library is at the bottom of my screen, and I OCR, I'll have to work my way all the way down there to reach it. Any way t his could work? Thanks!

I don’t think so, sorry.
