Is it trying to describe images?
Rosetheweirdo 3 points 1y ago
Yes, it is.
DHamlinMusic 1 points 1y ago
Seems a bit annoying that it does that automatically.
Rosetheweirdo 1 points 1y ago
I think you can turn it off in VoiceOver settings.
DHamlinMusic 1 points 1y ago
Would hope so, I have no idea as I am on Android

That's an iPhone for you!

Annoying? Couldn't agree more, I am happy to stick with my Pixels.

It totally is even if there was no image just trying to basically describe what the screen actually is looking like which is really pointless but funny and interesting my favorite is it’s trying to describe what the messaging screen or the individual messages on messenger looks like and it comes out like social media post or memo or something funny like that

Guys no it's not trying to describe images the best example I have is when I try to put on my password when Face ID doesn't work the numbers instead of one or two or three it says that but after two seconds it fixes itself

What’s your wallpaper?

IOS is trying to describe images for you. It can be turned off.
Personally, I don’t find it any annoying.

This happens to me the most here on Reddit. It tries to describe an image but it also describes the upvote and downvote buttons. The annoying part is that the images don’t get described correctly and I have to turn on screen recognition to read what’s on the image. On twitter it does a better job of describing on its own.
TechnicalPragmatist 2 points 1y ago
Yes funnily enough it is trying to describe to you pictures there is no picture but is trying to describe to you what’s on the screen this is really funny but it is not effective or useful or productive in this case it’s just describing literally what it looks like. So I just ignore this and keep on doing my own thing

you will have to reboot vo when that happens, just do a 3 button press on the power button then 3 again to turn vo on. I have to do this every once in a while. I have reported this to feedback.apple.com and sent my sis diag through we transfer when this has happened.

Is this for me?

Nah what I am describing is pretty normal stuff voice over just does now, though. Nothing out of the ordinary.
ke7zum 1 points 1y ago
I've never seen that, and if I have I just reboot vo. no odd reading of things, not for a while. knock on what ever is around me lol!
TechnicalPragmatist 1 points 1y ago
It’s easy to turn off and maybe you have had it turned off I just leave it on, because it’s amusing, haha! And occasionally actually helpful.

What you are describing is Image Recognition. If it is on globally for the system, any time you encounter any kind of user control that may have an associated icon or graphic as part of the VO focus target, VO will try to describe the icon for you. Just go to your iOS Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > VoiceOver Recognition and you can customize which apps have that feature on, or just turn it off entirely. I find it useful when I'm navigating social media or my own photos and such before I can add markup/description, but it gets annoying when it catches random graphics in the wilds of the internet or randomly in apps where developers think they are being clever but not handling accessibility properly.

Simple fix, useful and powerful when customized.
