Komplete kotrol keyboards. (self.Blind)
submitted by bradley22
Hi, I want to get a komplete kontrol keyboard but I’m not much of a musician.

I like runs, twiddly stuff, slides and things like that.

In other words, I’m not one for really making music, but I’ll have to because you can’t just play the keyboard Will it be plugged in so I might as well download reaper and try to use it.

My main question is are any of the free libraries worth it? Have any of you actually use any free libraries and do they work?

The samples that are bundled with Komplete and Kontakt are better than a lot of free stuff out there.

Do you have to buy them along with the keyboard?

Kontakt comes with Retro Machines which is a whole bunch of older keyboard sounds that are pretty good. Also comes with Hybrid Keys and something like Ethereal Sounds. Along with factory library of alot of stuff that's decent. Retro Machines is pretty cool imho if you like older keyboard sounds (is comparable to third party libraries I have). (edit: posting this in case you were considering Kontakt stand-alone).

Thanks, I’m thinking of getting the keyboard but I’m not entirely sure at the moment.

I like realistic sounding libraries so I might look into it, we’ll see

fwiw, Kontakt's probably my favorite plug. Like you, I tend to like organic and realistic sounds.

I think NI has a promotion going right now through end of month where if you already have Komplete Select (which comes with their keyboards I think - then you can upgrade to Komplete Standard (which includes Kontakt) for $199. I \_think\_ that's right, but check me on that. If you don't already have alot of sound libraries Komplete Standard has alot of instruments and sounds that would be useful including pianos, organs, drums, guitars - along with their synth stuff.

$1

I have Kontakt so I can upgrade to Komplete Standard for $199, and I'm considering it - but I' almost sure the same discount applies to customers who already have Komplete Select - which I think comes with most of their keyboards.

My conundrum is I already have so many other 3rd party instruments (mostly for Kontakt) that most of my musical needs are already filled - but if I didn't already have those sounds Komplete Standard which includes Kontakt would be a no brainer for me. There are so many inexpensive (and many free) sample libraries available for Kontakt that it opens up so many options.

Good luck.

Native Instruments' website says that it ships with Komplete 13 Select, which is a scaled down version. Kontakt Factory Selection is free either way.

Just pay attention when you get additional Kontakt libraries that the one you're downloading works with the free Kontakt Player and doesn't require the full version to use. I highly recommend getting the full version of Kontakt if you plan to get really serious about it and budget allows, but at the same time there's no shortage of great libraries to be found that work for the free version.

Thanks.

The KK keyboards all ship with bundled software. As a musician who's been making songs with them for 2 months now, they're pretty frickin good for the most part.
