You can talk to your local rehabilitation agency and get some basic training in things such as orientation and mobility, or independent living skills. They can also discuss some adaptations you can make now, to get used to.
oh, thats right. i was more focusing on preparing myself and forgot about this... what are some common items? i dont even know what i would put there since i took vision for granted my whole life

Being blind is surprisingly easy. It's not at all as challenging as I imagined.
Going blind is hard, though. There's a lot of emotional turmoil involved.
The blind bucket list did two things for me. First, it was an opportunity to make some visual memories of the people I love smiling and having fun. That's the way I want to remember them once I can no longer see them.
Second, it gave me something to do, a sense of purpose I was really missing after losing my job.
There's a link in my first reply. Click on it and it will take you to my blog where I go into more detail about the stuff on my blind bucket list. But this is *your* thread - you decide what you want to do with the remaining eyesight you have.
Who do you want to visit? Which city or national park do you want to see? What activities do you want to try?

Go to an eye doctor once a year.

Get some cane training, assistive technology training basically using computers the blind way, and also independent living skills training. Also learn braille. I know someone who learnt braille as a hobby years before he went blind and is actually deafblind, and he’s doing great! So learn some of these things. Braille can be a hobby that can be used later.
