Male voice or Female voice with nvda? (self.Blind)
submitted by vzjiofdanefnlk
I've been using female voice to read the screen, but I get a headache and ear pain after several hours.
Is male voice easier for ears? Which one do you guys prefer?
Also I'm very new to screen readers, I've been using it for only less than a month, maybe my ears get less exhausted, if I get used to screen readers?

I have three speech synthesisers installed and I switch between them every now and again because I get bored with the same voice

So when I first started I had similar experience. I was using google ChromeVox, though. I found playing with pitch and voices helped. Also getting a really comfortable pair of over the ear headphones was worth it.

Now I use macOS and VoiceOver Alex which I find pretty pleasant. Not sure if you have the luxury of trying different screen readers but that might be an option as well.

It depends, it’s personal preference. And yes I think getting use to it helps definitely.

Windows 1 core voices are good, and you can install more of them from Windows settings. I like Mark and Linda. Others, like Microsoft James, Richerd, george are also good. They seem to have a bit more extra pauses between punctuation, that's my only complain.

If you are using ESpeak, I am using English Britten, Edward 2, pitch 40, rate boost on, rate 45. Try it, it might work for you.

Thanks, I'll try Mark, pitch 40.
Rate 45 is way too fast for me though lol

Probably the pitch is the issue, I am mostly on my phone and find certain voices irritating and hard to listen to just because of their tone.

Is the lower pitch better, or higher?
I'm using 50 by default

You would need to adjust that and see, lower is going to be less shrill, but could start sounding groany at too low, I also know a lot of people use other voice packs with that.
