Why does NVDA freeze/become unresponsive when entering some sites? (self.Blind)
submitted by ChipsAhoiMcCoy
One site that this is repeatable on is Reddit. Every single time I open up Reddit, my NVDA becomes unresponsive. I have to wait a couple of seconds for it to respond again, and sometimes alt-tabbing in and out of the browser seems to help this, but it is super irritating/annoying. Why does this happen?

Thanks!

I've noticed it's gotten particularly bad over the last week or so. I'm on Chrome. Maybe some new update that makes NVDA and chrome dislike each other more than usual?

From what I hear, the new reddit layout is a resource hog, so it might have something to do with that. Personally I use the $1 which you can make the default in your account preferences.

To browse posts in the old layout you need to position the cursor in the Jump to Content link, which is the first element in every reddit page, and then press tab to jump to the first and subsequent posts or shift+tab to jump to the previous post. Positioning the cursor in the first element of a page can be accomplished by pressing Control+Home.

This is because they usually have bad javascripting.

Do me a favor can you provide me the links? You can send them in private if you like. I audit sites for a living and will figure out the problem.

Also please use https://old.reddit.com/r/blind - I already told reddit admins that the site is causing NVDA to overload labels sometimes.
