Windows 10 font size in menus (self.Blind)
submitted by yoyo2718
So I adjusted my display settings on my pc laptop to make font larger, but now when I open random menus and view my files in list view, the font is too large to fit on the line, so it gets cut off. So I’m looking at file names in large font with the tops and bottoms of the letters chopped off. Anyone know what the fix is for this? Mostly I’m learning to use jaws, but I do occasionally do things visually when I’m stuck, so it would be nice to solve this.
One other question, what’s the best way to see all the other options at the top of the window, like the list view, icon view, etc. options. Magnifier? Or is there another way to enlarge this? Tia.

Changing system font size has never worked well for me.

Display scaling often causes more problems than it is worth for me as well.

$1 can work ok when no other tools, like ZoomText, are available.

* `Win + '+'` turns on Magnifier
* Zoom/magnification level is increased with `CTRL + '+'` and decreased with `CTRL + '-'`
* `CTRL + F` sets Magnifier to full screen mode
* `CTRL + D` sets magnifier to docked mode
* `CTRL + L` sets Magnifier to floating window mode
* `Win + ESC` turns off Magnifier

Just like with any other tool it's best to read the documentation and play a bit before you might need to depend on using it.

Do you only have JAWS or do you have ZoomText as well, called ZoomText Fusion when JAWS and ZoomText are bundled together? I will use Magnifier in a pinch but ZoomText seems to behave a bit better than Magnifier and ZoomText pairs very well with JAWS. Magnifier probably interacts well with Narrator but I cannot say I like Narrator much so I avoid it when I can.

Thanks! I haven’t used magnifier before, so this helps. I’m not familiar with zoomtext, I will have to look it up to see what the difference is. I detest narrator and am a new jaws user. I had been keeping things at ‘normal’ size to force myself to learn jaws faster, but if I get stuck it is so helpful to have things huge so I can see it.

$1

Also made by $1, the people that make JAWS.

Even if you choose ZoomText be sure to practice using Magnifier and even Narrator as well. Your normal tools may not always be available but the system tools should always be there.

have you rebooted the computer since changing those settings?

if you haven't yet, do.

if you have, sorry i don't have any other thoughts on this.

I did try, but no effect. It’s like the lists in file navigation only allow for so much letter height or something.
