Do any blind people use discord app with iOS and voiceover?(self.Blind)
submitted by ElvisfanTCB81
I have not learned how to use discord yet. But I know a lot of people have discord servers. I would like to be able to check them out on my iPhone, as I do not use my computer as much as I do my iPhone. What do I need to know? I am asking for blind people who use voiceover, no offense, but I am not asking for a sighted person to tell me how to do this. I need to know how to do it with voiceover. Thank you.

I use Discord on a daily basis. It works mostly well with VoiceOver. It can be a bit annoying - for example, scrolling up to read past messages freezes and crashes the app, or you have to restart the app if you turn the camera on in a call and want to turn it off. You also can't leave servers on the iOS version, but you can on the PC. It's generally usable with VoiceOver, though.

Well there is no how to use Discord with VoiceOver manual, generally with every app I just downloaded and try to learn it, everything is clearly labelled but I think it's just a process of learning it and when you have a specific question about how to do something you can ask the sub Reddit discord server, one weird thing is that you get first the time, off the message then the message, then the person who sent it, which is a bit weird

I don’t mind it with voiceover but NVDA on laptop is far superior when it comes to discord. Also seconding the mic issues! You have to reconnect to the call or discord doesn’t realize that you’re in the call still, after accepting or declining another call while in a discord call.

I used it on my iPhone with the latest version of iOS for the meats we have on this sub. They have been slowly releasing updates most of which donut dress voiceover issues but some of them have fixed a minor bugs with voiceover on it. It’s a decently smooth experience for things like joining a voice channel and using the microphone and such like that or a big clunky. To clarify discord overall is pretty smooth and easy to use with voiceover but joining a voice channel is very finicky but it does work. Also forget about push to talk either I haven’t figured it out or it’s just not working properly at all with voiceover.
Facebook messenger and WhatsApp are leagues ahead as far as voiceover accessibility go but that’s kind of to be expected from bigger companies like that.
Last note as far as my experience goes if you’re using the microphone in Discord and a voice channel and your phone calls you’re going to have a very bad time. Edit if you get a phone call while using the microphone you’re gonna have a bad time.

And the audio quality seems to be better.

Aye.
I have a few servers going on discord. A christian one that seems to be celbrate recovery type thing, the blind one, and a few programing ones.
It use not to be great at all but it’s definitely gotten better. At least it has it’s uses and is usable but. It’s still not perfect. When will it be 100% peachy though.

Yes, i find it easy to use. I also use discord on my pc with jaws 2022 with scripts from http://dlee.org/discord Now, what you have to keep in mind with discord on the phone is the drawer. If you need help with discord feel free to add me my id is lightsrage#4971 I am always up for friends. So you click on the friends tab at the bottom which sometimes you have to use your finger and get to focus by putting your finger there but once you do it will show up then double tab on friends then add then type in my id then hit add.

Discord is hot garbage on iOS when you are using VoiceOver. I've tried to use it for a few years now and did sort of manage to get the hang of it, but they are always fucking something up with accessibility between releases and overall it's just a very unpleasant experience. Definitely don't recommend it.

I have discord on iPhone but haven’t figured out how to make sense of it with voiceover so I just don’t use it
