The RNIB keeps has continued to contact me even though I've asked them not to (self.Blind)
submitted by KathersG
This is more of a rant than anything, so apologies for that. I asked the RNIB not to contact me any more but they don't seem to have the processes in place to follow this through, I've had them contact me at least twice since I asked them not to, twice in the past week or so. I'm not putting in a complaint yet but if they ring me again I probably will much as I'd rather not deal with the hassle.

While still living my my parents over 30 years ago I gave their home number to a local blood bank where I used to donate blood. About 10 years ago they started using an automated dialer and message system to call and remind people to donate blood. My parents have received one call a day every business day since, for me to remind me to donate ever since...and nothing has ever gotten them to stop.

If you manage to get them to stop let me know how you do it. Maybe the same thing will work with the blood bank.

Block the number?
ukifrit 1 points 1y ago
They’ll call you from various different numbers.

Can you just block their phone number lol
KathersG [OP] 2 points 1y ago
I shouldn't have to and that wouldn't work anyway because it's not the same number each time. They're meant to be a charity helping the visually impaired but my experience has been that they do more harm than good.

If you don’t mind me asking, can you elaborate a little more? Why do you feel they do more harm than good?
KathersG [OP] 4 points 1y ago
I felt that they've done me personally more harm than good. I agree with their campaigns and don't have an issue with how they deal with the media or present people with sight loss or anything like that. My issue is with how they act when you contact them or they contact you.

My first issue was when they got a nurse to call me from their eye health team or something (it was over a year ago) and she brought up what we believe caused my sight loss 3 times and to me there seemed no reason for her to be bringing it up in that way or certainly not more than once, it felt really insensitive (and she came across as patronising as well) but it's not something I like discussing so I recognise I might be oversensitive on that subject. The bigger issue was when they were ringing people during Covid for welfare checks and to let them know what services were available. I said I didn't need any of that and that my sight wasn't that bad and the response I got was "shall I put you down as sighted then?". I felt that I was better off before I contacted them.

You might be oversensitive, but it’s OK to be that way. It’s your situation, you can feel however you want about it and how people approach it. The next step could be vocalizing it if whatever situation becomes really bad. All of that sounds extremely frustrating though.
I will hopefully be studying abroad in the UK in a few months and have plans to reach out to ouRNIB to see how they might be helpful. So seeing your comment, I wanted to get a feel for any frustrations I might face beforehand.

Ah ok

Why are they trying to contact you?

I've got a few different opinions on RNIB but I can imagine not wanting much to do with them.
KathersG [OP] 1 points 1y ago
They're not contacting me over anything important, the last 2 phone calls were about a survey and a study respectively, I just don't want anything to do with them because of previous contact as I've detailed in another comment. I went to put the details in the post originally but it just seemed confusing to me.

Is there a way to contact somebody that is higher up to say look this is what is going on.
KathersG [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I have an email I sent to the "Customer Complaints Management Lead" over a year ago asking them not to contact me again so if they contact me again I'll try them again. I'd forgotten that was who the contact was until you prompted me to go looking so thank you,

Yes sure not a problem. And that’s good you found it.
