Git hub? And install client just fully a inaccessible zone?(self.Blind)
submitted by SiriuslyGranger
I know this probably should go on blind dev but that’s super inactive, so I thought I’d get more views and responses here.
I would like to complain and also see how many others.
Anyone else play with github and it’s installer? I’ve been playing with it and getting my git hub installed and cloned.
I am working with a small assistive tech company being a contractor and using homebrew and we’re working through git hub, to work with the repositories and store stuff on there.
We were trying to do it through terminal and we got it working except it said that they no longer accepted password and username and we need a token. We thought the homebrew or the installer may be a better solution.
It really was and wasn’t! It was faster, but I downloaded it first and I couldn’t read anything. Later my boss or employer who was also totally blind did the same and agreed with me.
We ended up having to use his aera but to me this stuff should be accessible anyway if you want blind people to be able to use your git hub products?
Grateful that we have it all said and done. The repositories are cloned and we’re set to go?
Has anyone ever discussed with git their inaccessible installer?

You don't need to install github itself. you just install git, and get an access token from github, then you are all set.

Or use an SSH key, yeah.

Sorry for kinda off topic question. But how do you copy the output of terminal? When I use "git status -s" to see the list of modified files, I really want to copy the path of files to add to staging. I know how to scroll up with num keys, but haven't figured out how to copy yet.

Have you tried pressing ctrl m in CMD and then checking?
You can explore and copy everything that way as well, and later paste it in notepad or something.

what you mean by cmd? like inside windows terminal? nothing happened with ctrl m

I have been exporting it. That’s what has been suggested for me.

I'll export to text file, and read / copy on vs code since I can't do it visually, thanks

It really depends on your platform. For work, on Windows, I actually do it visually with the mouse. On macOS on iTerm2, I use VoiceOver's copy functions. You can also cat into the clipboard using different utilities on different OSs.

You can create auth tokens on your Github user profile. They are used instead of passwords to upload code.
I would try watching a few git tutorials on Youtube, then watch a few Github tutorials on Youtube.
I prefer the command line interface rather than Git Desktop, even being VI.
Understand the overall workflow with Git, then you can adjust your procedures to meet them.

I'm faster with Git than my fully sighted coworkers, because I just use the CLI to get things done, while they hung around 5 different panels on the IDE to find even the most basic functionality.

I'm a low vision software engineer. I've only ever interacted with git and github via the CLI and github's website. You definitely don't need the desktop client, esp if it's not accessible. github itself has a CLI tool called gh that you can use, there's a third-party one called hub, and most recently, I've been using a CLI tool called graphite.

Ah, nice that’ is interesting. Thanks for this. Maybe someone should report the inaccessible native one, but don’t know if it’s open source or if there’s someone to contact haha!
