What’s the best way to use Reddit with VoiceOver (self.Blind)
submitted by fantasy53
At the moment, I am using Reddit website in desktop mode and that seems to be okay, but I was wondering if there is an easier way at all, like a third-party client or the Reddit app itself.
Is that any better with VoiceOver?

I have been using an app called Dystopia Beta for Reddit. It is very accessible on iOS. There is a sub Reddit for it. You may have to sign up to be a beta tester.

Are use Apollo and have no issues with it plus the developer does address VoiceOver issues with his updates if there are any.

Is that available on mac as well?

Apollo is great and very accessible with voiceover on the iPhone

I'm interested in this as well so hopefully some other Mac OS Voiceover users will chime in.

What mac are you using intel or m1? I believe on m1 dystopia works.

If not then try old.reddit.com that’s the more accessible side of things.

Voice over on mack or the iphone?

I believe distopia or bacon reader is the best way to go about it on the iphone. The native app is not very good on the iphone. Dystopia or even bacon reader will make it far better. Also apollo also works as well.

On the mac depends on which one intel macs yeah, probably website and old.reddit.com is probably your best shot. But if on m1 you can see if dystopia will work.

I am beta testing dystopia for reddit and i love it you reply and such through the actions menu and make new posts through the more button at the top of a subreddit it supports chat and everything. You can google how to beta test it and give them your apple id for test flight and they will set ya up.

I only use BaconReader in iOS. I've worked with the developer to help make the app accessible, and while there are still issues here and there, plus a nagging crash happening after iOS 15.5 came out, it's the client I'm most comfortable with.

If I get a chat request, I'll pop onto Safari on my Mac or in iOS with VoiceOver and activate Desktop mode if I'm on mobile Safari. The web version is a total cluster, but once you work your way around the quirks, I'm ableto manage enough to at least make and format long posts there, but for all else, I just stick with BaconReader.

I use Apollo on my phone (paid, but works great) and Luna for Reddit on my PC. I'm not sure if there's any third-party clients for Mac.

I’m also and Apollo user. You can also download the app on your M1 Mac if you have one.

How would I do this? Was trying to work this out as a new Mac user.
chitarralove 1 points 1y ago
You can download it directly from the Mac App Store. To get the version we’re talking about you’ll need to have an M1 Mac. If you purchased a new Mac recently then yours is probably an M1.

Managed to figure it out, don't worry. Running an M1 Mac Mini.
