Reading databases with NVDA? (self.Blind)
submitted by Nighthawk321
Hopefully there's someone out there who can answer this, but is there a way with NVDA to tell if a word is underlined, bold, or italicized. Otherwise how do you tell the difference between a foreign and primary key? Thanks.

Use the modifier key plus F to read the format of text

What format of document are you reading, is to theory or code. Most sql base code will be writen in ways where you can tell its a primary key easily. Such as:
CREATE TABLE cat (cat_id primary key, name);
etc.

It's for my database management systems college course. So far it's not in the context of SQL or anything, just learning about relationships and it's demonstrating foreign and primary keys through various font styles.

OIC, as suggest by another, highlighting and hit nvda+f will read you the formatting.

So it's got nothing to do with reading databases at all then OP. Just formatted text. The fact that the text is about databases is about as far as the connection goes LOL.

When I was studying needing that level, I assigned NVDA+alt+f to toggle announcement of reporting font attributes. it was easier to read a line with the announcements on than checking each part of the line individually. You can do that by going to the NVDA menu, then preferences, then N or up to input gestures. type "font" into the filter by box, then go down to attributes, press alt+A for add, enter the gesture you want - in my case, caps+alt+f, then arrow down to choose whether you want it on a single keyboard layout or multiples and hit enter. OK the dialog and you're good to go.

A braille display also serves very well for this if you're a braillist
