Ibmtts with latest nvda (self.Blind)
submitted by autistictechgirl1990
I finally updated to the latest MBDA as most of the add-ons have been updated, but I installed the latest add-on for IBM TTS but it only installed the driver and I don't know how to install the library
I followed instructions on the add-on it says to browse for the library but I can't find it anywhere how do I fix this thanks

The Addon website mentions "newer IBM binaries". Does anyone know anything about these? I'm pretty sure I'm using old ones, my DLL is Copyright ©1995-2002 by SpeechWorks, Eloquence Command Interface 6.1.0.

I'm not unhappy with it or anything, just curious as to what's changed when.

Unfortunately that dll is the newest you're going to get.

and yet, >"As of version 21.03A1, this driver also works with the even newer libraries from IBM, rather than just the SpeechWorks ones."
So where do those fit into the world?
the_purple_goat 2 points 1y ago
How new are they?

that's what I'm askng

After research and gentle correction from a couple users, the newer binaries discussed are actually updated versions of IBM viavoice. They're available at ftp.software.ibm.com in a folder called "asi". Note that you need an ftp client to download them, although the ftp server doesn't need a username or password even though it doesn't answer to http requests. When you run the installer it dumps files into program files (x86) in a folder called viavoice tts. These new libraries support a higher sample rate (even though it sounds terrible), don't support the community developed eloquence dictionaries, have a random bug with the right paren symbol, don't strip out line return characters during say all (meaning you sometimes get wierdness if a line feed is in the middle of a word like sometimes happens with Kindle books), but do support a couple more languages. I switched back to the older dll. Either way, this can't be piracy because the installers are available for free download from an FTP server, the installer doesn't have a license agreement of any kind, and they don't require any keys or authentication or anything.

Is the asi folder located under a sub directory somewhere? I can't seem to be able to find it in the root.

I wasn't asking for them, just about them.

the library is not packaged as part of the addon for legal reasons. if you already have a copy of it somewhere from before, then go to NVDA preferences and point your newest addon at the old Eci.dll or whatever you used.
There are places that bundle it, pseudolegally. I can't imagine you'll get into much trouble for going down that road

Can you please give me the link of those places? I have the eloquence DLLS, but I want other compattible libs

Remember: Reddit is not an appropriate place to ask for or encourage pirated software. Links to any driver that bundles eloquence, or any comment mentioning where to get it, will be removed.

I've got the old one from there yes

Okay, sorry I can’t help any further. I’ve downgraded for this exact reason.

There are no code-breaking changes in this addon between versions, so it works fine with the new NVDA version if you just tweak an .INI file.
* Run %appdata%\nvda\addons
* open your IBMTTs folder, then open manifest.ini
* find the line that starts lastTestedNVDAVersion and change the number to the latest version of NVDA, 2022.1 in this case.
* Save the file and update. You'll get IBMTTS as per usual.
