Which field of study would be beneficial for someone who is blind? (self.Blind)
submitted by darealy
Thinking about going back to school and would like to know which feels people with visual impairment or blindness have been successful in I have many interests but I don’t wanna take something and I’ll end up becoming harder as my vision gets worse

I’m a incoming freshman majoring in English literature!

That’s very interesting indeed. A very neat major.

Sure is! I hope to work in a library as a youth/teen specialist or a librarian and get my MLIS

Ah, that may be more useful then what I wanted to do. I wanted to be an author/writer of some sort. Realized I wasn’t good at writing and not what I wanted to do. Also not very creative. Studied a bunch of other stuff. Was passionate about politics and such things. Wanted to serve in conservative politics or civil rights. And yeah, that just wasn’t it. Then realized I worked in the tech industry for many years. So well here I am.

I hope you like it. I would say that or library science will be really useful for that.

Most importantly, what interests you? What's a career you can see yourself somewhat happy working in?

I'm studying business and majoring in human resources. I chose HR because I've tried studying psychology, social work, and public policy in the past. Therefore, I think I would be good in a field that helps others. My other strength is writing, whereas I know I would struggle in a number-heavy field because you might as well be speaking an entrely different language when it comes to maths and numbers. I want the workplace to be equitable and I'm passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding employers attitudes towards people with disabilities (though have no idea where to channel that passion). My plan is to generalise and then maybe specialise (maybe as a Diversity and Inclusion Manager) or work my way up to business partner or manager.

But I spent 4 years having no idea what to do, I had no idea what I wanted to do in high school either. But I had to think about it and go with what my strengths are, not what is a good career field for blind people (because blind people can do a lot).

What are your interests?

Help us help you. What are your interests. I could say that programer would be a perfect opption, but if computers are not your interest this would not be suitable for you.

I met an entirely new person last night who is interested in languages. Sounded like a good idea to me. Lots of jobs available if you speak unusual ones!

My husband is almost totally blind and became a successful massage therapist. He worked consistently for five years until other health issues got in the way.

I’m doing agriculture leadership! It’s not that hard for me as I grew up around farms and ranches.
