Playing Poker? (self.Blind)
submitted by rumster
So I just returned from the WSOP (World Series of Poker) and my bad luck bell rang hard and I mean SUPPPPERRR hard. But during that trip I came up with a conversation with one of people at $1 on poker playing for the blind would work.

**So here's my two questions to the community:**

If you are comfortable please let me know if you're able to visually see playing cards? If so, let me know do you play? Second, if you can't see completely how would you go about playing an actual card game?

Would you be interested in playing electronically? Like a poker game online? If so, are you already playing one - Let me know which one?

After talking to this news reporter - I told her there is potential here of getting the blind community into poker and maybe even conquer.

Anyway, let me know your feedback... Who knows maybe just maybe.... the 2023 WSOP might have one of you in it.

Have got back into playing poker since I went blind, been back at it for two years now and have been part of a cool group of blind poker players.

Which play poker online for real money and tournaments. Are Poker client is Quinton‘s playroom.

And we gather every other day to play a game during the evening.
It still has is issues now and then, but it’s probably the best free one that we have come across so far.
There also are a pack of playing cards which are accessible via QR code and your mobile phone device, you just scan the cards with your phone and it reads out which car do you have.

And they just look like a bunch of regular cards to the sighted people you are playing with.
I’ll come back later and post a link to the WhatsApp group and to the accessible playing cards.

Game start as little as $10 and can go higher if you wish.

You play for money on the playroom? Do they allow that through them, or do you set up all that separately and just play poker on the client itself? Asking cause I wouldn't mind putting a bit on the line every now and then. I do hang out there sometimes but have never gambled on it, just played the games with friends.
As for packs of cards, you can get braille playing cards. I have several packs. They aren't cheap, but well worth it if you're a braille reader.

We just use Qc playroom as the client, and send the funds via cash app PayPal or Venmo.

Cool, I should try that.

I know a blind poker player who does well and plays professionally and makes some money. I think he hires someone to sit behind him and read his cards to him. But the braille cards idea would work.
rumster [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Well what I want is making a small community app for the blind community to play some good ol poker.
SiriuslyGranger 1 points 1y ago
Interesting. Would this be a real money thing or not or both?
rumster [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Both. I want to make it worth something eventually. I sent out a message to a large poker company to see if they will respond.
SiriuslyGranger 1 points 1y ago
Interesting hopefully you get some results?

Not a poker guy myself, I prefer blackjack, but have been trying to use an ocr app to play Magic the Gathering, think that would work loads better for something like poker.

online poker for the blind has been a thing for decades - allinplay and blind-adrenalin both had accessible clients back as far as 2008 or a little earlier.
Pretty sure neither of those are extant anymore, but qcsalon.net have a 5-card draw thing, rsgames perhaps have something still.

I ended high school with many a hand using braille cards. we had to play for candy because school, but 'twas great fun.

It's been many years since I've played any type of poker. Use to play Governor of Poker on Windows. It wasn't very accessible but I was able to magnify the screen enough to see the cards. With real playing cards, I often had to put the cards up real close. Sometimes I read the cards correctly & sometimes I didn't. I think there are both large font & Braille playing cards that can make playing poker more accessible.

Eh, I prefer Craps and BlackJack. I can't pick up tells anymore since that was all highly visual for me Unless we are using a braille deck, I'd have to have a sighted helper whisper my card values to me and would have to put a lot of focus into how the other players speak when calling, raising, or talking in general to see if I can percieve anything audible in their reactions. That's not very fun for me, so I prefer going up against the House instead of other people, haha.
