No clue if this is the correct place to put this but here we go.
I have what my parents call a pirate eye or a winky eye. It’s a hereditary thing from my dads side, but it’s more extreme than my dads or grandpas. It makes my face super unsymmetrical and winks when I move more jaw- Like when I eat or talk. It makes me really self conscious cause a lot of people like to point it out and make comments, I wonder if it would be appropriate to get an eyepatch just to cover it up??

Go for it, if you feel society's perception of your face matters that much. As a totally blind person myself, I would neither see nor care about either the patch or your eye. It's certainly not going to bother other people with visual impairments.

You don't need to ask our permission.
You have a genetic condition. It affects your quality of life. This is absolutely your decision to make, not ours. Wear one if you want. It's nobody else's business.

This!
Happily, there’s nothing about wearing an eye patch that would be culturally insensitive, so you do you. Wearing one or not is entirely up to you, what you’re comfortable with, what you want to do. Personally, I’d be temped to go all in and get eye patches with cool designs, or fun colours, and make it a fashion statement. But maybe you don’t want to do that if you don’t want to draw (more) attention to it.

if it's not the eye it's the eyepatch if it's not the eyepatch it will be something else people will always find a way to make comments

Agreed. I say keep seeing out of both eyes and get used to nosy people or come up with some good shutdowns as you're going to get comments on the patch as well. But no one here will be offended by you wearing a patch.

You do what you want to do. Maybe they make an eyeglass that is tinted so you can see, but they can't see your eye. Like the mirrored ones pilots wear. When someone asks why you are wearing an eye patch, tell them you are practicing to be a pirate and you can pierce their ears. Tell them it will cost a buccaneer.

If you can see out of it, I’d suggest asking your doctor first to see if there would be any consequences to doing so.

Go for it. I wear an eye patch due to being blind in one eye and someone wearing an eye patch for medical reasons other than that certainly isn't gonna offend me, especially if wearing it does help you.

It's your body, your choice! If you've got something about yourself that makes you uncomfortable, do what you need to do to make yourself comfortable. I know a lot of blind people wear sunglasses because lights hurt their eyes, but some, including myself, also wear them because we have no control over our eyes, and it's difficult for others to see that when we have the sunglasses on. Just do you! :)

Go wild!! Deffo make some cool ones but also maybe grab a nice one for fancy times if you need to go out to eat! They have some lovely custom silk ones on ETSY if you ever need something to match for a wedding or prom

Gonna be hoenst, the only person you might offend is possibly a pirate as far as im aware. So go for it I say- and if you want to make it fun, add some color or get a fool design. I personally think its totally fine as long as it makes you more comfortable. (I wear a mask even during phptos for a similalr reason- its jsut more comfortable for myself appearancewise)

I don’t see why you can’t.
jasondbk1 points1y ago
Is this a cool blind joke in disguise? I read that and giggled.
Sorry, not sorry
SiriuslyGranger1 points1y ago
What do you mean? Do you mean me?
jasondbk1 points1y ago
Sorry I was going for the pun of “seeing” in your post. I didn’t mean anything personal and I’m sorry if you felt offended in any way.
