Blind podcasters, what do you use? (self.Blind)
submitted by CosmicBunny97
Hi all.

I've been tossing up with the idea of creating a blog, podcast, or YouTube channel for a while now (like, 2 years). Decided against the YouTube channel since I'm not the most extroverted or videogenic person around. Wordpress was too tricky, so kinda... gave up on the blog idea (I might try other platforms). I would like to create a podcast that's similar to a blog, giving life updates and maybe talking about issues in the blind/low vision community - I know, real original.

I do enjoy podcasting in the form of interviewing others. I'm currently working on a podcast for my uni where my co-host and I interview students with disabilities about their university experience.

So other blind podcasters, what do you use to record and edit your podcasts?
I was thinking of using either my iPhone or upgrading my iPad and editing in GarageBand, but not sure how well that'll work. I could also buy a (proper) USB mic for my computer and record and edit on my laptop, using either Audacity (with JAWS scripts) or Reaper if possible.

Also, feel free to share your podcast, I would love to check them out!

I use stremyard. I have had a few over the years. Right now I am starting one called the roundtable conversation. Some guy asked to debate me on roe vs wade being over turned. So we decided to start a podcast/channel I think we’re doing both and we banter and talk about politics and debate.

I am the conservative christian and he’s a more liberal person. So it’s interesting.

I was thinking of starting a blindness thing myself. A pretty realist type thing, on blindness, issues, advocacy and independence. Probably more aimed at advocacy, awareness, talking about issues for and about the blind community.
We just started this one I had a pretty big channel on some other stuff before. I have been using streamyard for a while.

Oh interesting. Yeah, the blindness podcast you mentioned is like what I want to do, as well as general life stuff. For example, seeing as this month is Disability Pride Month, I want to do something around what disability pride means to me.

Yeah, I would talk about myself less and more on principles and the more pragmatic stuff here.

Chenelle Hancock uses Anchor.fm. Here is her podcast https://anchor.fm/chenelle-patrice-hancock/episodes/Clljp3--Language-conversations-e1ihsl

I like $1 but I have no idea how screen reader friendly it is

I don't podcast but I blog, in part because of a suggestion made by you, Bunny.

$1

There's a mention of you in the first blog, but they're in reverse order so to get to the first one you'll need to go to the bottom of the page and click "SEE MORE" until you get to the last page. Or just click here - $1

If I were to podcast I would stick to the interviews and have a partner handle all the technical stuff.

Since you want to do this in a university setting you should approach the school and see if their accessibility department will provide an editor or pay you so you can hire one. Make sure your request is in writing - you know how it goes.

Oh that's amazing :) Will definitely read your blog!

I think the blog idea I've got for myself will mainly be me, but maybe I'll do interviews, since it is something I enjoy. I've got a friend who uses a podcast hosting platform called Anchor or something like that, so I'll probably check that out :)
