Reddit apps for the blind to use on pc and phone. (self.Blind)
submitted by lightsrage85
Hey, I use a beta of dystopia for reddit. While it is fantastic, i often miss things on my subs and such. Especially chats and mail. Is there a compreble app for the pc or IOS? I use my pc a lot and dislike the website. I have jaws2022 and windows 11 so anything that works with that setup would work wonderfully. I love using the setup i have just needs to notify me better, I have all my stuff set right for notifications i am pretty sure but it doesn’t make a sound to notify me. Soo i need help please.

I use Luna for Reddit, which I think makes little notification sounds...

I am going to try that one too not that i dont like reddit for blind but i wanna see luna for reddit too.
Its just how i am check out my options.

Redditforblind might help you.

Have you turn on notifications in settings in Dystopia?

am working on getting monitoring set up. I can't figure out how to toggle these settings this is confusing. I got reddit for blind. I gotta just get used to it. I will it just takes time.
If you have any tips let me know. I wanted to monitor certain subs and my inbox. but on monitor inbox i tried enter and such but that did not toggle it.

Read the manual.

It explains how to do that there.
lightsrage85 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Yeah i haven't gotten that far. just got it downloaded and logged in and opened a subreddit and this was the one i picked.
bradley22 1 points 1y ago
Okay. Yeah, definitely read the manual.
lightsrage85 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Yes, i did that in dystopia. All of them. Where do i get reddit for blind? I. Will google it.
bradley22 1 points 1y ago
If you google it, click on the link saying something like browse Reddit blazingly fast.

I’m not a big fan of the expanding sound personally, but I turn it down in the volume settings on my computer.

There is a much easier way to do that by using a NVDA add-on. If you’d like to turn the sound down, let me know.
retrolental_morose 1 points 1y ago
you can just replace the sound file with something more to your liking of course.

You absolutely can, and sometimes I do.

I use Apolo and I really like it. I would recommend you to look more into this. The accessibility is really good and chats. Also, very easy going through comments.
lightsrage85 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
still learning it. learning both luna for reddit and reddit for blind. because i like having all sorts of options. love how dystopia has chat options and uses the actions router, apolo is good but me and the keyboard stuff need to learn to get a long. I cant find my keyboard this morning i have trouble bending and think i knocked it off the table where i cannot reach. Go me! yes, its one of those mornings. I hate having a bad back.
QueasyAngle9524 1 points 1y ago
I get where you are coming from. I lost my keyboard in my house the other day and it took me a good half hour or more to find it.

I use Apollo on my iPhone and I’d like it a lot I haven’t had any issues with it. The developer also addresses VoiceOver issues and some of his updates so it might be worth giving it a try.

I am learning apolo i just gotta learn how to enteract with posts comments and such. I use a eyboard and am not familiar with all the commands. so that being said the long press thing is harder for me unless i have my phone right on hand its difficult to do. I can do a long press then but I cant always remember how to do the keyboard commands. I just gotta refresh my knowledge. I also gotta do some settings adjustments.l

Single finger triple tap to interact with things
lightsrage85 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
How much does that cost? I may fund that. I am not sure. it depends on the cost. I have to figure out a bunch of stuff. the only thing is i cannot find a pc app that does chat it appears. I want something that does everything and it appears I may have to break down and learn to code.
LaraStardust 2 points 1y ago
In defense of Luna, adding chat is not as easy as it sounds. Chat is not native to the api, so how the IOS apps do it I'm not sure!
lightsrage85 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Hey I recognize your name. lol ah the community is small. but that being said hello there. I will check into luna. I just like having things available to me when i can. but i like trying new things too. I don't get much in chat so hey its not all bad. i can use dystopia for chat on my phone or have people chat me on discord. can ya shoot me a link for luna please? I am having one of my days. thanks.

No clients except for the main reddit app which is not very accessible and dystopia have chat.

Early on I was one of those who recommended it and really advocated for it. So it was put in. He found a way, but most other clients don’t have it unfortunately.

I am trying to figure out how to use apolo for reddit on my phone just so i know how to use it. I like learning multiple things. And on my keyboard its difficult. I cant figure out how to do anything on this thing. But i gotta learn keyboard commands.
SiriuslyGranger 1 points 1y ago
Well have fun, I hope you are able to figure it out.

I use chrome on windows, pretty much exclusively. I get push notifications like with any other site like messenger say, even on windows 11. Most third party apps would require me to pay for push notifications, and the reddit native app on apple leaves a lot to be desired, which I'd need to keep around for notifications anyway, plus I only use my phone for phone things.
