Software for office work (self.Blind)
submitted by Bad_IT_Man
So, trying to set up software to make my visually impaired coworker able to come back to work, we tried Zoomtext and she loved it, but it slowed her laptop down monumentally.

I took time to play about the windows settings with her and got her an almost perfect alternative, the only thing she wants is the red box from Zoomtext (Focus Assist?) and I have no idea how to get that for her.

Would anyone be able to give me any advice for this or tell me if there's other versions of the focus assist or software alternatives if possible?

Thanks

Assistive tech software generally forces an upgrade to the level of hardware you need. You have to go from a regular office machine to a beefy workstation.

I'm not convinced Windows Magnifier has this feature.

Upgrading the computer would also be beneficial if her vision decreases further and she needs something like Fusion which is even more resource-heavy and for which being able to use ZoomText beforehand would be ideal.

Frankly, assuming the company can get it paid for by some kind of state entity, they might as well upgrade the computer and go with Fusion from the get-go.

I rely on magnification, but use a screen reader very frequently as an added tool. When you get to the point where you need that kind of highlighting, you'd get a lot of of a screen reader.

Hi, sorry for the long delay in replies but we were off on holidays and this is the account I use for work.

Yeah I want to ask management if she could get a big desktop PC so that we can give her the best she needs, its more just for right now as I don't know whether or not they'll approve the upgrade as she has stated to others that what she has now works mostly fine other than not getting the red box.
