Not blind here! But noticed a visually impaired loved one having trouble swiping on their iPhone to answer calls. They mostly use it for phone calls and Siri, so I’d love to help them answer them more easily.
They have one of the older models with a home button. Google seemed bleak on programming it to answer calls - I’m thinking of how you could triple-click it to do certain actions. Has anyone found a good solution for this?

Learn voice over and have an assistive technologist teach them the iphone. Answering calls is very simple but voice over already needs to be on. But also just learn to use voice over it’s super helpful and makes the iphone completely usable. And so many possibilities.

On my phone I can say “hey Siri answer my phone on loudspeaker” (I’ve not enabled anything specific) and it works great. Downside is that they’re now on loudspeaker. But it might be an option for some calls.

have you ever thought of just saying answer call, it won't go on speaker

I haven’t tried that. I only found out that it would answer on loud speaker when I had messy hands and needed to take the call. I tried it out of pure frustration!
You can enable voice over and fully control the phone via gestures. As already mentioned with voiceover enabled you can use a two finger double tap to answer and end calls. Also learning voiceover will help them fully use the phone again and you can do practically anything on your iPhone with voiceover. Apple has a very good introduction to voice over video on their Apple YouTube channel so you can get the basics of voiceover down and start learning from there it’s pretty straightforward to use.

with voiceover enabled, all you need to do is double-tap the screen with two fingers (this is called a magic tap, and does many different things depending on the context of which it is being used)
this can also start and stop any music that may be playing. sometimes if you try to perform a magic tap without context (or just sittong on the home or lock screen), this may launch the music app so if you suddenly start hearing music from your device, this is probably why

the screen reader voiceover allows a 2 finger double-tap to answer or end a call, but VO needs to be enabled for that to work. In IOS16 you'll be able to use Siri to verbally answer and hang up. i'm surprised that the back tap feature in accessibility > physical > touch doesn't have an answer call option; it can do shortcuts if you can receive a call that way.
