becoming an assistive tech instructor (self.Blind)
submitted by BlindBard21
Hey all,

For those who are assistive technology instructors in here, how did you get started? I recently started doing some assistive tech instruction as volunteer work, and finding that I'm really enjoying it. How did you get started with being an assistive tech instructor as your job, if that makes sense?

I fell into it. Started off doing paperwork, was seen to have good IT skills as a blind person in my own right ... now do it full-time.
Get yourself a good online presence, do some reduced rates or starters online, maybe build up a youtube portfolio or make some courses on Udemy, start a podcast or what-have-you

I didn't know you could make courses on Udemy. I might have to try that out sometime.

You could certainly go the school route. Or you could find a place that will take you work there and then get certified.

Like I said you can also go the school route. There are some programs out there. A part time professor at western michigan was talking to me about going there.
