My "learn braille" book came, but none of the dots are raised(self.Blind)

So yeah, that's useless. Can anyone name me a title and author of a book for me to learn Braille from? The book I received would've been great if I could actually read it, but I can't.

If you’re in the US the Hadley School for the Blind is free, online, and has several great braille courses you can do by mail for free.

They recently revised their courses and I’ve been hearing mixed things so definitely report back with your thoughts, i’d be interested to hear your opinion!

I'll check it out and see if our very bad internet connection (think dialup) can handle the online stuff long enough to sign up for the by-mail courses, thank you!

I think you can call them to register if your internet is bad :)

Oh, rock on! I'll definitely try and call them in the morning, since business hours are over for my neck of the woods. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure those books are meant for sighted people who want to learn Braille so they can read or help out blind people like our braillests I recommend Lots of dots I don't know the author but try googling that title or I think it might be a collection. But that's what I used to learn Braille when I was in preschool and then we got some of the old books a few years ago and I think they should work

I think Lots of Dots is out of print, since my phone's telling me it's like $70, but at least now I know to get one of my kids to read the book description to me so I don't waste more money on stuff that won't help me lol. At least my youngest can use the book I got today; he wants to learn Braille, too!

Ooof! Sorry about that. Try getting in contact with a school for the blind they'll probably have some books you can borrow from their library you don't have to be a student there to do it I've done it before

The nfb.org might have something. National federation of the blind. They may have an online catalog.

Thank you!

I don't have a book but I do have a website. UEB Online is a great place to learn and has an option for non-visual learners! It has also got UEB math too

Thank you so much, God, all y'all have been so helpful!

I learned Grade 1 Braille in a day after FINALLY finding a great lesson that gave me tips on how to memorize (instead of just presenting the alphabet to me and expecting me to remember it).
It’s a 14 minute video called “You don’t need to SEE this video” here is the link: https://youtu.be/LIZ0qtckQh8

Thank you, I'll check it out!

National Braille Press has some though not sure how good, have not gotten any of those myself, but have several other bookst from them. Sorry for the lack of a link.

Thank you so much! And no worries about the lack of link, I'll have my oldest Google it for me on the PC when he gets home!

I absolutely do not have a copy of Fingerprint Braille hidden in a cupboard, and that fact does not cause me to lie awake at night castigating myself for being useless. So long as we understand each other.

Have you looked on aph.org?

Check your local library for resources! Mine had grade 1 beginner books and some grade 2 books as well. They also were able to hook me up with Hadley and I do lessons there with the teen librarian who knows Braille!
