Voice over question about list boxes. (self.Blind)
submitted by SiriuslyGranger
Okay for once the computer nerd has a question. It’s kinda basic, but I don’t know the answer. As someone said, “I didn’t know siriusly didn’t know something.” 😀 hahaha!

Okay seriously. Now question: this is about the mac and I am obviously or not so obviously using voice over. On a modern version latest actually Monterey on an m1 mac, but it shouldn’t matter as long as you’re running a modern voice over version.

So say you are going down a document or webpage mostly a webpage if document would be html anyway. And there’s a list box or a multi select box. You could choose more then one option. Where as a combo box you can only choose one.

I made one, but now I have a question.

How do you actually work with these? Everything is selected as I go through.

So say there was 15 options and I want to select 4. And not in a row too. How do I do this successfully or is there not actually a way?

Okay yes it selects it but when I vo to the next one it deselects it until I select the next one. How do I select many?

Once you do VO+Return on the first element, you must use VO+UP/Down to navigate.

This isn't an answer to your question, but have you designed it to be accessible to screen readers and keyboard navigation? This page explains what you need to do and provides some examples you can examine: https://www.w3.org/WAI/ARIA/apg/patterns/listbox/
