Delivery from restaurants that don’t offer delivery? (self.Blind)
submitted by lovemali02
I’m asking for my mom who is legally blind and cannot drive. She’s trying to see if there’s any services that offer someone to order at the restaurant for to-go (or she can order over the phone if possible) and would deliver it to her house. Similar to Doordash but unfortunately she has a few favorite restaurants that don’t use those “mainstream” delivery services. She lives in the Sacramento area. Thanks!

I've never used it but maybe something like TaskRabbit? Or maybe post to your local FB or NextDoor group looking for someone to help with "errands"? Maybe you can find a local person who would be willing to do the pick-up for a small fee.

Good luck!

Oh yeah. Nextdoor is a good suggestion!

Thanks for the TaskRabbit suggestion! It looks it can come in use for her in multiple ways! She does have a good group of friends from her neighborhood that help her out, she just is looking for ways to be more independent.

I feel like you can postmate like anything, and I think I saw an app called grabit that might be worth looking into

I’ll look into grabit, thanks! Unfortunately she’s already asked these restaurants and they don’t work with any 3rd party delivery services :(

I know you can't usually use 3rd party apps at places that don't have the restaurant portals, but postmates claims they can get you anything from anywhere. The thing is, it is complex, but this link kind of tells you how to do it. Basically though, you have to order from a nearby restaurant and then put in the special instructions what you've ordered from the actual restaurant you ordered from. Then, the driver will go to the general area, and then find the actual restaurant to pick up from. Pretty messy, so hopefully there are more options!

Check the delivery apps themselves. Just because the restaurant doesn't partner with them doesn't mean the service doesn't go to the restaurant. I've worked in a few restaurants where the delivery service has done this.

I would recommend staying away from grubhub though. And keep in mind these services are also known to have higher prices than the actual restaurant, even when partnered with them.

As for which apps to use, I'm only familiar with the mainstream ones like Doordash and ubereats.

Depending on where you live taxi companies may pick up packages for a flat rate. They do groceries too. So as long as the restaurant will do a takeout order they should let a cab pick it up.

There may be more in California, but here in Texas there are DoorDash, favor, GrubHub, or Uber eats. I hope that helps

Order from some place that will deliver?
lovemali02 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
My mom deserves to get food from places she craves even though she is unable to drive. That’s why I wanted helpful advice from others in similar situations. She already uses Doordash and delivery services for other restaurants but I was trying to find ways to help her get the food she really wants without her having to ask a friend for help. She likes trying to be as independent as possible and wants to learn about resources like others have given, TaskRabbit and GrabIt.

I guess reality has some constraints sometimes. And what is real isn’t always what is fair.

Well unlike your really unhelpful answer and statement, reality turns out to not be unfair towards my mom because actual helpful people gave answers and my mom got to get her sushi she deserves. Maybe stop being a troll on a subreddit for people looking for genuine help.
