Hiring a P.A through access to work, any advice? (self.Blind)
submitted by LaraStardust
Hello,

I'm currently in the process of searching for quotes for a personal assistant to be hired through access to work, but as it is my first time doing such a thing, I was wondering if any of you had gone through similar, and if you had any tips/advice or good places to look?

Thanks

I did mine through Indeed, but then had to juggle all the applications, interviews etc myself. It was the best way for me though because I had the most control.

Oh you can do that? that's actually... Not a bad idea.

Yes you can do that and it is a good idea. I did this years ago, in about 2007, but you can and should be involved because only you really know what you need.

In the end the person I worked with ended up working with most of the team which was fine; I only needed her specifically for a few things. I think I could have done the job without her and just relied on favours like we all do, but it depends what the job is and how okay that is.

Good to know. Thank you :)

When I did this it was handled via my employer. I'm self employed now but depending on your situation that may be worth investigating as the more they do, the less you have to do. That does need to be balanced with your need to stay in control of it. I find the biggest issue with this sort of situation is stopping people assuming you need more (usually more rarely less) than you do and having it become a bit smothering. That's thing one to figure out I guess. Can you tell us any more about the situation?

For quotes you could always ask agencies. Then compare to costs for one on indeed. That will be your three. Then hire yourself, to ensure you get exactly what you need from the assistant.

Or use the agency and try out lots of different people. Only issue being can be tricky to find someone permanent.

I have been through this so feel free to message

I'm having trouble finding agencies. Don't even really know what to type into Google

Look for agencies in your local area that offer admin roles. Then just email asking what the hourly charge is for a PA.
