A fun little cursive script I’m trying to make more accessible. It’s designed for fast writing, but I still want the characters to be readable if you’re into this sort of thing and vision-impaired. Any feedback is welcome. 🙂 (i.redd.it)

Maybe read up on the development of $1.

But what I’m seeing is even more illegible than my handwriting and I’m dysgraphic.

Sweet, thank you! I was hoping for something like that.

But seriously that script is not readable. It is so far from standard script for Latin characters it is a new alphabet. People will need to be taught how to read and write it.

Absolutely. Definitely more of a cipher/neography thing. But I try to address concerns.

Apologies, but I couldn’t figure out how to add captions. The accessibility policy told me to create and link to a Self Post of the image contents transcribed, so here’s that: https://www.reddit.com/user/AbbyUpdoot/comments/w4xe8r/

You have very nice handwriting but alas, as someone who struggles to read print, I can’t really sort any of this into meaningful shapes. The problem with cursive in general is that everything about it is flowing and nuanced, which is awful when you need something that has each letter standing out with a clearly distinct shape. Thank you for being interested in this though. I do miss writing by hand.
AbbyUpdoot [OP] 2 points 11m ago
Absolutely, and thanks for the heads up. I wasn’t aware cursive in general is just awful for that, but now that you mention it, yeah that makes a lot of sense. Sorry about your handwriting. If you ever wanna talk, it’d be cool hearing what you are into right now. I have so many hobbies, I swear to god.

Thank you for the condolences; I still draw and occasionally write by hand just for the fun of it, I just can’t read it at all heh.

I’m a really avid reader, podcast listener, writer, and ironically artist and video game player heh
AbbyUpdoot [OP] 2 points 11m ago
That’s freaking awesome. You can damn well write if you want to, and I’m glad you do. What kinds of games and podcasts?
razzretina 2 points 11m ago
Haha thanks!

I like science and crime podcasts heh. Lighter fun stuff like Every Little Thing and Twenty Thousand Hertz and Leighton Night With Brian Wecht. For games I prefer platformers and Metroidvanias though I have to use cheats for some (Hollow Knight is impossible when you don’t have enough visual field to see the enemies telegraphing an attack). I like a lot of older games because they’re brighter and easier to see what’s going on; lots of Mario and Zelda and similar type stuff.

I am a bit confused can we have a bit more context I am so confused what this is and what this means.
AbbyUpdoot [OP] 1 points 11m ago
It’s a constructed script that attempts to make cursive writing go faster by leaving out as many loops and strokes as possible. I was told it was hard to read and I inaccessible to the visually impaired, so I tried modifying some of the characters to give them more distinct shapes. But since I don’t have any experience with visual impairment, I have no idea if any of this is usable or helpful. But I do want to make an effort though in that direction if possible. Any comments or advice are greatly appreciated.

Ah, I see I can’t help you I am totally blind.
AbbyUpdoot [OP] 1 points 11m ago
No worries. I asked the mods if I did it right, and they said this might be better off in LowVision (didn’t even know about that subreddit 😬). I’m brand new to this scene and a total outsider, but everyone here has been super nice so far, and I’m glad I gave it a try despite having mad social anxiety and fear of upsetting people. Y’all are cool beans, and I hope I wasn’t too much of a bother. ✌🏻
SiriuslyGranger 2 points 11m ago
Yeah, probably better off there there is some of me, people who are totally blind and it’s like okay. Wait what’s going on. Bit perplex as to your post for a while.

And welcome to reddit or is it just this sub?

First, I’m sure the fine folks of r/neography would be interested, If you haven’t posted there already.

Second, not gonna lie, but I don’t see how the “accessibility set” is any more accessible than the “standard set”. What am I missing?
AbbyUpdoot [OP] 1 points 11m ago
I was told by someone who I assume has a vision impairment that a lot of the letters seemed indistinguishable to them. So I did my best to give some of them more unique outlines, but honestly I have no experience, and they had no suggestions for me offhand. So this was my best guess at a trial version. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But good to hear. Like I said, any feedback is welcome. Yeah, I’ve made a few posts on there already and one on r/handwriting. The comment which spurred this was from r handwriting, and I don’t think they realized there were multiple images, the second one showing the key. So it could have just been the user’s inexperience with this type of content, but I wanted to put out a good faith effort anyway and see if the community here had any suggestions.

Saying the standard set looks fine to you is honestly heartwarming, because I really didn’t intend to alienate (even if it _does_ look like an alien language).
