Who here has floaters? (self.Blind)
submitted by Raccoon_Tail33
The other night, I began seeing spots behind my eye. I have ROP, and even though my chances of a retinal detachment are slim, but according to the internet, it's a early sign of retinal detachment, which really had me scared.

Yesterday, I called my retina doctor, but he was on vacation, so the only way I was able to be seen that day was to go to their other location, which was an hour from my home.

Something must have been watching over me that day. Not only did I make my appointment with no hiccups, I'm overjoyed to report I'm perfectly okay! The doctor just said to ignore them. I'm certainly trying, but they're a bit annoying and alternating.

They went away for a few hours today, but returned an hour ago a reddish tint over everything. I just turned on my computer monitor, and the bright page changed them back to the static-like spots.

I have an appointment with my low vision doctor in a few weeks, and even though I'm not overly worried, I'm definitely interested to hear what he has to say.

Anyone else?

I have sticklers syndrome and have had floaters for as long as I can remember. Granted I have also had retinal tears in both eyes. Something to also look out for is ocular migraines which can cause visual floaters and other visions that are only temporary. Once you lay down and relax or take a nap they taper off and you may feel better afterward. I’ve gotten used to my floaters for the most part but some days are much harder than others.

I see a lot of those fuckers. My retinas are nice but I have risk of detachment. It scares me. I see a lot of them and they are very annoying in some cases, for example while driving against a rising sun, I get blinded by the sun and on top of that I see a lot of those spots, they won't stop me from driving at all, but they are annoying. I use black theme on my phone and pc to avoid them. I see some static floaters on bright days but they are almost invisible and not annoying at all. I am nearsighted since I was a kid, I have been living with them for years and I'm 26 now, people say "just ignore them" but it's hard, you can't in many cases.

(They/them, 27 yrs old) Glad to hear that I am not the only one. I got a hemorrhage in my left eye in February. Which caused floaters, blurred vision and rainbow vision and hues. Now August 12th, the only thing that has cleared up is the blurred vision and the floaters got better but are still there especially in the sunlight which the sunlight bothers my eyes so bad. Now my right eye is doing the same thing. Dr says it’ll go away on its own but says there is still bleeding. Laser was done in April. I also don’t not have peripheral vision at all due to ROP as a premie. When I move out next year, I am going to look into getting a cane, as I don’t feel safe walking around if I’m by myself. My partner supports it and agrees. I gave up getting my license because of my low vision.

If you have any questions about retinal detachment please let me know. I’d love to help the best I can

Thanks, but like I said, my retinas are fine. Plus, my floaters improve with light and movement.

I have ROP and have had retinal detachment in both of my eyes. I have floaters 24/7 and they get worse in brighter light. For me personally when my retinas were detaching I noticed in the corners and top and bottom of my vision were black and as the days went on at the end of the week it looked like one of those fisheye lenses on a camera. That was right before my surgery a day later.

I would recommend if you feel nervous about the symptoms to get it checked regardless because retinal detachment can happen extremely quickly and it’s best to be safe.

Does anyone's go away when they lay down?

I have tons of them in both eyes. They used to be kinda see through but the past couple years I’ve developed solid ones that act as floating blind spots due to size and opacity. They’re really annoying and often I think there are bugs flying around the house if I move my eyes quickly.

All day everyday.

The red tint one is distracting, but I'm just doing my best to ignore it.

Several years ago I started seeing floaters and noticed I was having trouble seeing words on my computer. So I went to get my eyes checked by my optometrist. He took some pictures of the back of my eyes and immediately freaked out. He said my retinas were bleeding, put me in a cab, and sent me straight to the hospital. It turned out I had unusually high blood pressure and it was making my retinas bleed. It took about about a month to get my blood pressure back to normal. The floaters disappeared and my vision improved a bit but I'm still considered low vision. It sucks because I've had to give up my career and my driver's license ☹

I’ve had them since childhood. I recall trying to explain it to other kids and then not understanding. Lol.

I've had floaters ever since a retinal hemorrhage when I was young. My retinal specialist would drag me in whenever they suddenly increased or changed, or if they were particularly painful. They usually settle (sink to the bottom) or dissolve, though occasionally they'll stay around longer and/or really block my vision.

Make sure you follow up with your retinal specialist, and try not to worry overmuch.

I have colorful floaters all the time. I even have a constant colorful static over my remaining sight.
What you should really be worried about is a sort of grey-ish curtain with a sort of stinging pain similar to ripping off a scab (in the back of your eye), or an unusual, new discomfort.
I recommend trying preservative free water eye drops.

I have 'em too but as far as I know floaters are a very common thing that you can even get treated. NOT MEDICAL ADVICE though.

I have some floaters, but I don't see them very often. I think my brain is just good at ignoring them at this point. I mostly only notice them when I'm tired. Mine are caused by debris in the vitreous.

Oddly enough, right after I lay my head down to sleep last night, they really calmed down. I read they really don't truly go away, but part of me hopes it's a temporary problem.

On another note, I did very well in my exam. I was worried the floaters might interfere, but my eye tolerated the bright lights well, and I could read the letters on the screen across the room. I did have small bursts of head pain after the dilation, but that died down quickly. The doctor suggested I follow up with my usual retina guy, and I most certainly will.

I think I know what you're talking about and I have only one that shows up in my right eye. Had it ever since I could remember. I've just learned to ignore it at this point.

I’ve had floaters since I was a kid. There was a retinal tear at one point and the blood in my eye blinded me for a weekend but it eventually cleared up. Now I see them when it’s bright out but they’re just left over bits of blood in my vitreous fluid. Annoying but nothing to worry about.
